What's the ultimate goal here? 16-0? Or a Superbowl? Out of conference loss, who cares? What did 13-3 get us last year? What did 14-2 get us the year before?

Look at the AFC people. Who's the juggernaut? No one is. Do the Broncos, Ravens, Steelers, or Texans scare you? Not me.

So they lost. Big Whoop. Did you see how that defense made stops when they needed to? They let up 13 points all game. After letting up 13 points last week.

Yes the loss sucks. They shouldn't have lost. I'm not happy.

The only thing that does matter is that Half of the country is probably out of survivor pools.

Lets see what next week has to offer... Its probably a must win for home-field purposes for both teams.

Remember that Browns loss in 2010? 34-14? Remember what they did after that and who they played? Pittsburgh Steelers primetime Sunday night game. They won 39-26 :D.

Check back with me after next week when they're coming off of a beatdown loss in Baltimore and are in danger of numbers piling up in the "L" column.

It does matter. If they lose out on the first round bye ect by 1 game. You should win the games you are suppose to win. Today was one of them.

What's your argument for Baltimore crushing us? Right now they sit right with us at 1-1. I like our chances next week.

I don't know if a 1st round bye really matters. Giants x2, Packers in recent times. All that matters is we were humbled today and that could be a good thing.

Of course I hate losing, but way too much good in this game to be too bummed about the loss. I like what I am seeing on D and in the running game. We will put it all together at some point - hopefully soon. Tough schedule this year, a win next week puts this loss to sleep - will not be easy, though.

Though I see the point you're trying to make, I don't care much for the title. It suggests that going out and trying to win every game is meaningless. As an ex-athlete, I can tell you that that's false. You want to win every game you play. From a playoff seeding perspective, though, I see what you're saying. We're fortunate that this was not a divisional game. Who knows, though, we may see the Cardinals again. They look like a "for real" team defensively. If either QB can play well and not find ways to give the game to the other team, they should be okay.

Their win is against a 1-1 team that made the playoffs last year. Ours is against an 0-2 team that did not. Their loss came on the road against a legitimate QB (not top 10, but legitimate). Ours came at home against Kevin ******* Kolb.

Right now, I think we're going to get destroyed.

On the bright side, I felt almost exactly the same after the regular season Giants loss last year. We were 5-3 coming off 2 ugly losses with the next game on the road at night against a team known to play us tough. Luckily, we won that game 37-16. Maybe they'll have similar luck against the Ravens?

Also, to OP, this isn't baseball, so every loss actually matters.

Actually, the Texans kinda do. They look pretty tough. And I wouldn't completely ignore the Ravens or Broncos. The Steelers, not so much at the moment.

As you said, it is early in the season. It is too early to write anyone off and that doesn't apply just to us.

Every loss matters just as every win matters. I wish people would stop talking down performances. There's 16 regular season games to make an impact working toward a Lombardi. That's not a lot.

I can also point out that the only reason Arizona scored half of their TDs was because of a blocked punt that put them on our two. So how will Flacco beat this year's defense?

But who both teams lose to doesn't reflect how they'll play next week. Especially if it's only week 2. I suppose after the Cleveland game in 2010 you expected us to get crushed by Pittsburgh too? Or back in 2003 when we started 2-2 with losses to Buffalo and Washington, did you think we weren't going anywhere?

A loss one week doesn't equate to a stomping the next week.

When you only play 16 games and a 1st round bye is at stake, every loss is important.

That doesn't mean that you can't overcome losses (e.g. the Giants) and win a Super Bowl but the easiest path to the Super Bowl is found by minimizing losses. With tough games against Baltimore, Denver, San Francisco and Houston (not to mention Seattle and the likelihood of 1 divisional loss) losing games to teams you should beat matters. A lot.

I don't know about a stomping but the Pats OL today was abysmal and IMO was the #1 reason for the loss today. I don't see how it won't be a big problem next week against a stout Ravens DL.

I'd also point out that the Pats D - while playing well - definitely had a number of moments where a better QB would have torched them. Whether or not Flacco is good enough to take advantage of those chances is debatable.

Hopefully this is the annual "wake the hell up" game for this team. If so, nice to get it out of the way early.

The hype after week one was too much.

After 2 games (with Denver still to play tomorrow night against Atlanta) the AFC currently looks like:

2-0: Houston, San Diego, possibly Denver
1-1: New England, Jets, Miami, Buffalo, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, possibly Denver
0-2: Jacksonville, Tennessee, Oakland, Kansas City, Cleveland

With San Francisco, Detroit and Atlanta still to play the NFC currently looks like:

2-0: Philadelphia, Arizona, one of SF/Detroit, maybe Atlanta
1-1: Dallas, Giants, Washington, Green Bay, Chicago, Minnesota, Seattle, St. Louis, Carolina, Tampa Bay, one of Detroit/SF, maybe Atlanta
    0-2: New Orleans

It's a little early to be crying over one loss. As the OP notes, the Pats went on an 8-0 tear in 2010 after losing to Cleveland in a "trap game". Last year the Pats were pushed around by the Steelers and lost back-to-back games before winning 10 in a row (8 regular season and 2 post-season) to go to the Super Bowl.

We knew there were a lot of new pieces on this team. There were bound to be some growing pains. I'm guessing the coaching staff will figure out how to work things out, even if there may be another bump or two on the road.

The Pats' "creampuff" schedule doesn't look that soft right now. The NFC West is very strong - San Francisco dominated Green Bay, Arizona is 2-0, Seattle and the Rams are both 1-1 and are coming off wins against solid NFC East teams. Denver beat Pittsburgh last week, and Peyton Manning is always a challenge. Houston and Baltimore are possible our strongest competitors in the AFC. Not a cakewalk schedule as things currently stand.

If you use the methods of the "experts" - when 25% of your schedule is against Top 5 teams (not including Arizona - who is way underrated using "expert" method) - that is a tough schedule.

Yeah, this was a BAD loss. No way around it. The schedule, like I said before the season, is harder than people think. The entire conference and division is better plus or minus a few teams. However, they can recover and it starts against Baltimore and Buffalo.

I don't think this loss is crushing especially since it was against a non-conference loss against a team that may be trending up to a quality team. But I disagree this loss doesn't matter. Every loss matters. The goal of the regular season is to get home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Every loss makes it that much harder.
