Here are a few of today's/yesterday's events in guns, 1/7-8/13:

It looks like a lot of this work will be collected daily in the Daily Kos - here's a link to their daily roundup page:
Daily Kos: Another day in the (gun crazy) U.S.A.

Kos roundup published 1/8/13 (won't bother with 1/7 for this batch.)

My count of incidents on the Daily Kos site is 20 "rounded up" today that resulted in deaths; in other cases people are in conditions that may lead to death. To clarify what this means, I'll use a line on this illustrative quote:

Shootings included both street crimes and crimes against acquaintances and loved ones. I'll use another line or two to illustrate the "shooting loved ones" phenomenon:

In four cases accounting for six shootings, shooter and victim(s) are said to know or be related to each other. They also accounted for four deaths. For a number of other cases, there may or may not be such a tie... for example, someone who shoots two people dead and is found with a self-inflicted fatal wound doesn't necessarily know them.

Doing the homework for the gun zealots: In one case, a man shot two people who broke into his home. In another case, both the homeowner and a home invader shot each other (but neither is known to be dead at this writing.) A total of 40 people had bullets go into them in these stories (not sure about #41, in which someone shot into a car and someone was "slightly injured," but the gunshot wound itself is not mentioned.)

Re: Jan. 7-8 2013: Today in Guns

Will a discussion of how much a person would rather be shot by an assault rifle than a shotgun ensue????

And the Aurora trial starts.... you won't find that on Drudge.

I saw them interviewed yesterday... apparently they're both gun owners, too. They're making the point that we need mo better gun control -- and that's where America is too. Not many people are like me or like the denial-machine gun nuts here either. Most people just want common-sense gun laws that makes it harder to mow down crowds, to start with.

Are you contending, Icy, that the incidents in the linked post did not happen?

Have you researched any of them and found it hard to corroborate them?

Or are they factual, but for some, inconvenient events?

Would we be happier about the 2-year old shooting himself in the chest that way? Would we be happier about the daily events where people solve their jealousy or anger issues with gunfire?

If Daily Kos didn't re-publish them would they not have happened, Icy? And finally, know what I've found a couple of times when a Fox affiliate has a gun murder story I find in Google? You got it. A redirect to a page not containing the story. It's like Google can see it, but you can't. I've never seen you complaining when people quote Fox in here -- as if conservatives have some kind of innate right to an explicitly biased "source" that often doesn't get its facts right.

As to whether we should have a "Today in morbidly obese/smokes/whatev" post, I've never read a story about a guy being killed by a "stray burrito."

Gun fetishists put the rest of us, themselves, and loved ones at risk. The same is true of second-hand smoke, so we have anti-smoking laws of various strengths to minimize the society-wide damage of that particular behavior.

We need the gun control laws appropriate to the damage guns do to others. For example, we need guns to be secured, so children don't shoot themselves and their pals -- just one example.

One more count I didn't do in the Daily Kos numbers... check out how many stories mention that 10 or more shots are counted by witnesses. How many shots with smaller magazines?

Yeah man! I want my government to fix EVERY problem we have!! Because "we the people" can't take responsiblity for our own well being....heck, we don't have time for that stuff!

Thankfully, some of know that government is not the answer to our problems. That more laws = more law enforcement and we don't want/need more law enforcement.

When you ever hold someone like Triumph accountable for his impeccable sources of RW vomit, this might carry some weight.

Yeah, total insomniac lately. We did some media training yesterday, and I was amazed at how tired I looked on camera... bags under eyes, the whole nine. This is even compared with the other middle aged men we're actually training tI'o do this (I'm behind the scenes.) Constantly tired & missing sleep these days. But hey, I've always got rando internet arguments to look forward to... :)

Meh, I'll get to work early, with any luck get home early.

I've had sleep issues since I was a kid. I used to walk in my sleep up until I was 40. I've been to sleep clinics twice. I even got one of those breathing machines as I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Try sleeping with one of those strapped to your face! So I lost 100 lbs 3 years ago and don't have the apnea any longer. But still sleep horribly. Although I do go through periods of sleeping well and not sleeping well.

Regarding looking old...hey, I'm almost bald now. Was lucky enough to get that fun gene! But I'm still a pretty good looking guy for a guy almost 54 years old (Jan 24th). Sometimes I look in the mirror and ask myself, "How the fugg did I get so old?"

    Goes by fast, huh?
