    You betcha.

Why the Supreme Court should strike down Chicago's handgun ban

You know, this thing called the embarrassing Second Amendment. (Embarrassing to liberals, that is.) Sanford Levinson of the Univ of Texas law school called it that.

I remember that after some fat lesbian attacked Tom Selleck on her TV program, when he was there to talk about a project, it was learned she had her own armed security guards. I guess she's saying that's not good enough for the rest of us.

No need to resort extreme right wing blogs and Roseann Barr.. most people will probably agree that it will be overturned.. the 2nd amendment is what it is.. and will probably never change.. there are those who want everyone to believe there is some type of clandestine effort to change it, but it will not.

Of course there's that troublesome part in the seconed amendment about "A well regulated militia." That seems to imply the right to regulate the militia. There was feeling at the time that the US did not need a military, and that the people themselves, collectively, would simply join together to fight any foe. In that case, you would them need arms and a well-regulated militia. Well, the fact is things changed, and we know we need a military but not a militia, so the amendment does not clearly address gun rights (except in the context of our need for a militia). That said, like many liberals, I have come around to believe in gun rights, provided there are appropriate background checks. I also think that having laws in place to arrest bad guys simply for having guns is helpful when evidence of a specific crime is weak.

That dog has been buried with the Heller decision.

Besides, haven't you ever read Longfellow's "Paul Revere's Ride"? Every able-bodied male was considered part of the militia. I'm backed up on that by historian Joyce Lee Malcolm.

Obama controls the Military, we very well may need a Militia, the American People will allow a Socialist leader with Dictator aspirations to go just so far then the Militia will take over and save the country.

My point is we went with a military instead. In the idealistic days when the Constitution was written, there was a feeling that if attacked, every able bodied American would simply take up arms. But, things didn't work out that way. Our main line of defense is the military. We do not really have a militia right now, except perhaps the NG. I think the second amendment is anachronistic, so it doesn't really apply anymore, but as I said I do think that responsible people should be allowed to own guns provided there are background checks.

I think guns are like drugs -- many of them are fine and are or should be legal. Some are not fine, and should not be legal. I tend to support the views of police organizations, though, when it gets down to the nitty-gritty details. I know in the past, many police groups opposed the broad availability of some assault weapons. Since they're the ones who would be in the line of fire, I support them on that.

Police are less threatened than cab drivers and those third shift convenience store clerks, according to statistics I've read.

Of course in so-called "Gun Free Zones," that's a great place for a whackjob to take out a lot of people. Pinelake Health and Rehab: More killings in ‘gun free’ zones

That's seven dead in a shooting everyone's forgotten about, although it was not even three months ago.

The Holocaust (Shoah) Museum shooting in DC is very different in that the perp was incredibly old (88) and went after armed security. I figure he wanted to die to make a "statement." His twisted thinking.

He also was armed only with a .22 rifle. The guard who was killed opened the door for him and was totally unprepared for what the old man was doing.

As a Jew, I'm intending on becoming a member of a Jewish gun rights organization I've admired from afar since the summer of 1990, Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership

Of course, gun control was initiated in an effort to keep guns out of the hands of Negroes.

Gotta "keep them in their place"? Freedom destroys dhimmitude.
