What a game. Thoughts through game 3:
Mike Wright was making plays all over the field, on defense and special teams. He has been doing this pretty consistently throughout the pre-season.
Patrick Cobbs has 'the vision'. He's not the fastest or quickest, but whenever he has the ball he simply makes plays, uses blocks effectively, and knows which angles to run. We CANNOT release him; the Colts could pick him up and he will be better than Addai.
I'm sorry to say this, but I don't like Reche Caldwell as anything more than a 4th receiver. We can't dump him because of our depth, but when Branch and Jackson come back, I don't want to see Caldwell on the field if we can help it. Based on his college and San Diego film I thought he didn't catch balls properly (didn't extend his arms), and he hasn't improved since he's been here. I'd rather have an extra tight end in there than Caldwell.
Other notables:
Matt Cassel is a keeper, there is no doubt anymore. He will be the steal of his draft when all is said and done. I hope we hold onto him and never trade him.
Junior Seau will do a fine job as our starting inside linebacker. He really adds attitude on defense, and it is noticeable.
Monty Beisel is officially demoted on the team. Some had been saying his for months, while others emphatically defended him. I think it's safe to say the Beisel experiment is over, at least for this year, and for that I am extremely glad. He'll be stuck on special teams, where I don't think he stands out either.
Patrick Pass looks like he's on his way out (keep Cobbs). Same goes for Jonathan Sullivan (keep Wright).
