Clayton: Patriots will average 18 points per game without Brady

Sometimes, this is just pure nonsense from John Clayton.

On the radio this morning, John Clayton said the Patriots would average about 18 points per game, down from the 37 points per game they averaged last year with Brady. He thought, even with Brady the Patriots would average about 30 this year.

18 points per game? Really? I always remember our 2000 offense as being one of the most anemic. That offense scored 276 points. 18 points per game is 288 points.

I expect a drop off, but come on.......

This team has to many offensive weapons to only score 18 points. Add in special teams and I say 24-27 points a game. They will beat the Jets tomorrow. I think they will blow them out because everyone is saying there season is over. I am just not sold on Cassel.

Clayton gets paid to state his opinion. Take it as seriously as you choose, and consider the source, for good or ill. Getting upset about it is just a waste of energy.

It wouldn't take much of a QB to average 18 PPG. That's 288 Points for the season. Last year only 9 teams scored less than that. Somehow I doubt we'll be a bottom ten offense.

All John is any use for is cap information and only because that gets fed to him. There's a message board poster who usually has better detail and refreshingly less ego (which is unusual for a Cowboy fan)... Actual football knowledge is another whole thing. Clayton's knowledge is access dependent. His access here is nil. That leaves his opinion which is as uninformed as any.

Re: Clayton: Patriots will average 18 points per game without Brady

IMO The offense will end up with about 370 points on the regular season making it about 23 points a game - I do not expect more than 400 at best and not in the neighborhood of last year which was ridiculously good

I don't think he is that far off but a bit over 20 on average is about right IMO

    I think 23-27 points a game is a fair estimate ... :eat3:

Re: Clayton: Patriots will average 18 points per game without Brady

Thats where I begin to worry

The pats defense in several games ahead may have to add a few points now and then to the teams final score if the Pats are to win some tough games - that means takeaways via defense or at least help put the pats offense deep in the opponents territory if the offense is not doing taking it down the field on their own in some games.

Re: Clayton: Patriots will average 18 points per game without Brady

No question. The running game and the defense have to step up in a big way. With all the depth we have at RB, i'd love to see the team run 35 times a game to take the pressure off Cassel.

I could definately see that happening a lot this year with 30-40 touches by the backs

I think the RBs will be set so that there is no real true RB carrying the rock but split up much between Jordan,Maroney and Morris with Faulk in the mix when needed and Evans to give Jordan a break on trying to gain some tough yards on third down and short or goaline formation. - Maroney will be the starter of course and on the field a little more than Jordan and Morris but not as much I think as some believe especially if he struggles.

And besides, until Cassel shows that he can be a competant NFL QB, instead of a deer-in-the-headlights, stare-down-the-primary-receiver turnover machine, then I also think that the offense will score much closer to 18 ppg than to 38 ppg.

I wonder what sort of advanced calculus he utilized to come up with 18 points per game? This crypt keeper freak pulls the stuff out of his a s $.

Re: Clayton: Patriots will average 18 points per game without Brady

We haven't seen much of Matt in game action. His two extended appearances versus starting D's he looked good. No deer in the headlights, if he stared down his primary he connected with someone, and he's not a a turnover machine. But just keep spewing unfounded opinion as if it's fact... It is, afterall, certainly a well documented fact that Belichick is a professional football moron and you're an amateur armchair genius... :bricks:

Never understood how Clayton attains so much credibility??
To make a statement like this based on one game is pretty irresponsible, otoh he is a non believer so what do we expect??
