A few more of these, and we might be on to something.

Thousands Rally Downtown Against Government Spending

CINCINNATI -- Thousands of Tri-State residents gathered Sunday on Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati to voice their opposition to government spending bills recently signed by President Barack Obama.

The group called itself the Cincinnati Tea Party, modeled after the Boston Tea Party of 1773.

Many of the demonstrators carried signs with slogans that said, "Honk if I'm paying your mortgage" or "Stop spending my allowance." Some even wore tea bags on their hats to make their point.

Cincinnati police estimated the crowd at 4,000 people. Many who spoke with News 5 Sunday afternoon said they're angry, including Rep. Jean Schmidt.

    These people are frigging braindead.

He's not spending their wages and their taxes have not gone up. He's borrowing against future growth so that the economy doesn't completely collapse and they don't all lose their jobs. It'd be nice if the same right wing idiots riling these morons up hadn't consistently undermined their education system also....

I agree. It's the gubmit monopolized, and run, education system that's to blame.

No it's mindless right wing propaganda that's to blame. "He's takin' my muuuunney!" (remember the reading comprehension talks we had?;))

But since you responded only to the education quip, when it's run by people who don't believe in it and want to see civics fail so they can pander to their big business buddies, you get hysterical braindead lemmings like this as products of a broken education system.

Which of the countless countries with better education systems than ours are privately run by the way?

welp, 2,000 clowns that don't get it all gather together with magic-markered signs for some tea-bagging. I'm impressed.

That is an impressive crowd for conservatives, but if tens of thousands of protestors could not stop Bush's war on Iraq, it seems unlikely that a crowd of 5,000 will have much of an impact.

    That's a rally :)

Look, tea-baggers: your old deregulatory, free-market-knows-all mythology is dead. Your artificially low tax rates are soon to be dead. Get all geared up to magic marker some Obama = Carter signs, because inflation is the most likely way we'll pay down the mountain of debt we've created; devaluation of currency by other means. Nobody's saying it, and nobody likes it, but it's coming. And it's all to clean up your boy's mess.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way. We voted for change for a reason.

Hey dissent is the highest form of patriotism. I recall hearing that for about the previous 8 years. And it's true.

You may not agree, but at least these people are getting involved in a peaceful and possibly constructive manner.

Inflation sure worked great for Carter.

I'm actually kinda mortified that people in this country think higher taxes, and gubmit spending, are a good thing. Absolutely mortified.

It's an impressive crowd for any group in these days of passive, brain-dead, TV-hypnitized drones we call "citizens". Even if most of theose "demonstrators" were able to get off their arse for the show, I'll bet half of them don't know squat about the Boston Tea Party. "Those Indians were sure brave to do what they did way back...whenever that was"

I remember the Iraq demonstrators. There were the hippies at Clark U. There was the church people downtown. They were out every day. They were insignificant.

Yeah that was funny when Carter printed up Whip Inflation Now buttons, and then heh he wanted to pass em out and that was supposed to...

Wait, how did Gerald Ford do that, when Carter was the cause of inflation???

Wowwww. Ecomonics is tricky! Time Travel!

The point is not that anybody is purposefully pursuing inflation, although if they are confident of being able to control it at a low roar, and are willing to aid those people it hurts the worst (i.e., low fixed-income individuals,) I for one think it would be a good thing.

The point is that if we are going to have an economy to fight about, the government is going to run up a tab. When that tab gets paid, it's likely inflation will follow.

You're "mortified" that people could believe gubmit spending is a good thing? Yeah well, by rights you should be "mortified" that people think that socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor is a good thing. Because that's exactly what these bailouts confirm. And guess what??? You have no choice but to support those as well, at the moment.

And then, you make sure none of those arrogant bastards can ever again hold a fuggin gun to the taxpayer's head, and say "guess how many jobs you lose if I go under? Gimme your money..." You regulate the sons of *****es and ignore their pissing and moaning about how brilliant the private sector is and what a bunch of dunces the government are... you make damn sure each party peddling risk is insulated from counterparties, you don't buy and sell risk parcels (purposefully opaque) to the higher bidder. It's nuckin futz what they came up with when left off the government hook.

You're all outraged that people might think govt spending is good, wheee, great. But did ya notice we have interconnected behemoths at the heart of this goddam crisis? Remember when we let Lehman's go under? Yeah, it's like that. It's a lot like that.

How about if people just believe gubmit spending is the least bad thing at the moment, does that help you?

I'm sorry did you say (at 11:16 AM) that cons work more than people on the left? I would have responded sooner but you see my job involves actually doing my job in the middle of the day not surfing the web.

One day topping the numbers attracted to their actual candidate, rumored sometimes to exceed 10,000.

Someone pointed out that dissent is, indeed, patriotic, and I should really echo that sentiment, regardless of the various forms of idiocy wrapped up in this event.

It's not like they're Chuck Norris style traitors, after all :)
