Now, some would argue that the reason conservative Republicans are often involved in lurid scandals, despite their "family values," is that they are white. But, I don't think that. I don't think you can generalize about people based on their race, religion, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. I know others in this forum disagree.

So the question is, Why are so many conservatives involved in sordid affairs? Is conservatism often a cover for bad behavior? Are many conservatives mentally ill, suffering split personalities? Are family values just a political axe with no real meaning? Did conservative leaders use family values to lure and bait the ignorant into believing they were superior to others? Or does it have to do with race?

House of Pain: GOP's Class of '94 - Yahoo! News

While it's true that there have been some scandals with Democrats, the difference is that Democrats do not try to legislate family values and do not condemn people for personal bad behavior to the extent of the family values crowd? How do conservatives live with their hypocrisy? Or do they think that the Senate should expel Craig, Ensign, and Vitter, and that Sanford should be impeached in SC?

I guess Patters is talking about politcians who are not governors.
In any case where's the science behind this inane thread?
Are politicians more or less prone to cheating vs the natioanl averages?
Some type of intelligence would be expected from a mod who wants to change rules but :bricks:

I think you missed my point. Liberals do not use personal consensual behavior as a litmus test for the quality of a human being. We accept that people make mistakes in their personal lives. We don't pretend to be morally superior, as the Republicans have done.

Maybe they realize what a big part the Christian Right plays in getting them elected.
    Just a thought.

Well I guess if you don't let people know what your stand is on family values then your bad behavior is easier to live with. A cynical take would be that democrats know they can't live up to them so they shut up expecting that all will be forgiven when they get caught.

Democrat: Hey I cheated but that's ok. I never said cheating was bad so why do I need forgivness?

Pundits: It's your private life and it should have nothing to do with your job performance.

Republican: Hey I cheated even though I said cheating was bad. I shouldn't have cheated because I still think it's bad. Can you forgive me?

    Pundits: No

Look it. The behavior seems worse because they prviously spoke out aginst it and even criticised others who have done it. I think in fact that cheating is cheating no matter what your public stand on it is. It creates a media circus as well and does affect job performance.

The republican party panders to the religious. But if their cheating statistics are below the averages then that claim may not be false. So ... where are the statistics on it. I think moral superiority is a bunch of crap as much as democrats intellectual superiority is a bunch of crap. To this day I don't understand why one party is better than the other ... but some still try to prove it. Anyone who supports one party over the other is a fool IMO.

I would argue that if Conservative Christian Republicans are involved in lurid scandles more often could it be because of surpressed or repressed feelings. Most likely they have had to represse their desires to fit in, to tow the line of Chistian values all the while wanting to explore what their told is bad, and off limites. It seems most of these scandles happen to men in their mid to late Forties. Is it a case of a mid life crisis triggering those repressed feelings. I.E. a last chance to do what i've always thought about.... Just a thought.

Joint or no joint, the Kingdom will always be here. To enjoy the full effects, however, does require a clear un-"enhanced" mind.

    Peace.
