Was listening to Sirius radio today and they were talking about how some on the newly drafted players are having the jitters and nervousness about playing now in the big leagues (NFL)

Paul Poszluzny LB of the Bills was one of those mentioned and it was quoted as him saying when he got into the Superdome last week he was awed and very nervous and a bit star struck by what is now the NFL and he simply played awful according to the announcers,I did not see the Buf-NO game.

When Paul was asked why his first preseason game was not too good he said he was a bit nervous and not quite himself.

I still believe we need to give these guys a little time to be ready for the biggest part of thier life but if they accept the Millions of dollars that are thrown in their face in April,I think they should be more than ready to play in their first game, preseason or not.

Its time for the college boys to put the pacifier away and start to play for what is expected of them when they are given the Million dollar contracts or they will go down the path of those who have been there before and exited the league quickly.

For Paul and whoever feels nervous I say,Grow up and be ready to play NOW,You have the Millions, now show us why you earned the money.

So a rookie says he's nervous of something he's never experienced and suddenly you say he's a baby and has to grow up? I think you need to grow up. His comments are perfectly acceptable. I think a rookie who says he's going to tear up the league (Steven Jackson/DeAngelo Hall/etc.) is much more out of line in those type of comments.

Unless you can directly relate to his comments - which I don't think you can - then your post is meaningless. It is no different than the 'first day jitters' all of us experience on the first day of a new job, first day at high school/college, etc. Maybe he is nervous because of the millions of dollars thrown at his face and he wants to make a good impression right away (ie. not let people down that chose him in the 2nd round) We have all experienced the same feeling in some form or another throughout our lives.

Re: Pos. While he may have been nervous, Bills media and fans have had nothing but great things to say about his first game played. Pos led both teams in tackles, including 8 solos, and got a sack.

People around here are already proclaiming Pos as the next Shane Conlon.

I'd rather they be nervous than c*cky. When they're nervous, it's an indicator that they understand how important what they're doing is. If they're relaxed, then they might not care as much.

From what I posted here was pretty much discussed in the same way on Sirius with guys like Gil Brandt and Bob Poppa who know the NFL as well as anyone,so others think these overpaid players must adjust sooner than later like I do....not a ****y or overconfident player but not nervous or overwhelmed either.

These guys have played in collegiate stadiums with just about as much or more fans so its just seems to me to get on the field and do what you do best...Forget about its the pros and get the job done, you can't let jitters get to you - Hopefully all these guys who are a bit nervous get over it and just play as well as what they are getting paid for.

Like I said I agreed to what the Sirius guys were saying and expressed it in this discussion.

    They backed it up,didn't they?

9 solo tackles and a sack for a 9 yard loss while playing only half the game isn't bad for your first time out.

Gotcha, so someone else said it, and they're experts, so that must mean you're right...

I'd be nervous even going from one NFL team to another NFL team, nevermind coming from college. How many star college players flop their first year in the NFL? Makes sense that he's nervous, shows that he understands what he's up against.

Remember Ryan Leaf? He was so sure of himself...

This is the kind of thing Borges would have written, and we'd have teared him a new a--hole for it, you're no different.

Yeah Ryan stunk but the two that another member mentioned are playing great and backed it up,so its a crap shoot for players who brag they are going to be great and actually are and then those who never flourish in the NFL.

This years guy I think who may be thinking he is going to be great is Brady Quinn...We will see on that.

Why go outside of the league into another when you can simply go to San Diego and stop at Merrimen's locker and 'buy some'

Yeah. AFTER they made the adjustment, genius. Your attitude is as ****y as theirs was. How on EARTH anyone cvan be so sohrt-sighted as to express some kind of too-cool-for-school Alpha Male B.S. based on a guy saying he was nervous for his first real action in professional sports is beyond me.

Tell me, how exactly does one just sort of "not be overwhelmed?" What action can he take to avoid that? Is there a button he can push. Talk about a non-story and totally ignorant angle - and just b/c Gil Brandt or whoever thinks so does not make your argument any less ridiculous.
