Found this helmet on eBay. While I love the navy-silver combination, this would look ultra-sharp with the navy jersey and red pants w/red and silver accents.

Thanks to trying it out on Madden, red jersey with silver (or even blue) pants and the silver helmet looks brilliant.

I'm still against red jerseys for this team on principle, as it was your ancestors marching around in them originally. ;)

That might be why it looks good :p

But that brings up this question....why did the New England PATRIOTS opt to wear red which is what the British soldiers wore?

Excellent question. It was an obvious mistake from the very beginning as far as I'm concerned. They apparently were going for an American flag-like combo of red/white/blue, but chose the wrong color for the jersey. Credit previous owner Orthwein with making the historically correct switch to blue.

Not all American uniforms were blue.

The musicians of this unit (the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps) recall the days of the American Revolution as they perform in uniforms patterned after those worn by the musicians of Gen. George Washington's Continental Army. Military musicians of the period wore the reverse colors of the regiments to which they were assigned. The uniforms worn by the members of the Corps are dated circa 1781, and consist of black tricorn hats, white wigs, waistcoats, colonial coveralls, and red regimental coats.

Scribe, what you posted was what The Bills did. They switched from white helmets to red & enlarged the side logos. They rectified it a couple of years ago when they switched back to white and shrunk the logo back to tasteful size.
And you already know how I feel about the Pat Patriot helmet. It was gorgeous. Scribe, it's esthetically pleasing to the eye. And the throwback jerseys' red color bursts off the television screen at you, especially big fatty Wilfork's #75. It's a great shade of deep-ish red.
And nobody sitting in the old Shaeffer/Sullivan/Foxboro Stadium pointed down at the field, nudged their neighbor on the aluminum bench, and proclaimed,"What a minute. Weren't the British called The Red Coats? The Patriots are wearing the color of the enemy!"
Scribe, Americans have a historical memory limit of about one decade. Ask them who the president was in 1952 and they can't tell you, let alone know who wore what in some old war over 200 years ago.
    It's feetbawl, Scribe.
But then again, you're the guy who publishes a magazine about 1970's Progressive Rock which was swept asunder by The Punk Revolution of '76. Cue Tull's "Living In The Past".

    I love you man.

It was only a matter of time before someone posted the Faulk pic in the red uni, so here it is for your viewing pleasure.

And Tunescribe, reading your post again where you add that you'd like navy jerseys to go with red pants and the red helmet -
Sounds like you almost want the Pats to switch to the 90's era Bills look.

Tunes, you need an image consultant. So does the Dalai Lama in yer avatar. That faded light red on his hat clashes with the darker maroon of his robe.
Tell you what, I'm heading down to Soho for Sunday brunch. You want me to pop my noodle into one of the galleries or boutiques and have someone call you?
    tally-freaking-ho

(actually, the Roger Dean Dali-esque Yes logo would look best on The Pats helmet. That way, my two most favorite things in the whole world would be all rolled into one. Kinda like what Demolition Man did with his avatar.)

I don't know why they couldn't mix /blend both logos and designs and color schemes in to a uniform like above pic.
You could put ole pat patriot on the front hip of the pant.

The problem with Pat Patriot on the helmet is (1.) it doesn't work from a distance, and (2.) its early '60s cartoon motif didn't age well. When you can't make out the details -- which happens from longer than 20 yards away -- it looks like an amorphous static tripod. Flying Elvis might look contrived, but at least it works as a logo, especially on the helmet showing "forward motion." The central problem with Pat is its dated style. Artists haven't drawn like that in more than 50 years and it looks like what it is -- an old-fashioned cartoon image. It works as nostalgia (if you don't mind its association with decades of losing) but little else.

That's because they were stupid and drunk. We both know that. :singing:

No, it's not about '70s progressive rock. It's about contemporary progressive rock including occasional coverage of the genre's forebears. Subscribe and be enlightened!

    Prove it! :D

I happen to know Roger Dean -- saw him last week, as a matter of fact. I'd LOVE to see what he'd come up with for a Patriots logo. Then again, his style probably is a bit ethereal for football.
