    #12 Jersey

All this crap about fighting for the #1 seed spot has done NOTHING for any team since the 2003 Patriots -

Its looking like its not a big deal about being the #1 anymore - Heck, even a team 16-0 could not get it done (you know what team THAT was ;))

The #1 seed is a waste and bad luck since this decade started,Teams getting the #1 and sitting for a week have all but for a very few, come up flat as a pancake near the end.

From now on I want our team to play well early..in december and into January and grab any spot they can - you can have that #1 seed

The #1 seed lately has just been a spot where the team just has to sit and wait till they get eliminated or lose in the SB - Its like being on death row knowing you are going to die but don't know when.

Well, being a 1 or 2 seed certainly has served the Pats well when they've landed it. I think playoff results down through the years still show greater success enjoyed by teams that get a bye, although it certainly is no guarantee.

    #12 Jersey

Didnt serve them WELL ENOUGH last year

You really have to wonder that if they didnt get that week off last year, were they ready to continue the roll without interruption, not counting the bye week of course and I believe there was also an extra week layoff before the SB as well although I cannot remember if last year was the designated year for a 2 week SB wait

Can we please stop with this nonsense? The Patriots were the #1 seed last year and made it to the Super Bowl. The seed worked fine. The seeding system is NOT designed to have a particular team win the Super Bowl. If it was, there wouldn't be TWO #1 seeds.

Good Lord, some of you people...........

I don't think being #1 overall is that important but I would definitely say that getting a bye is important. We had the bye in each of our SB appearances but one (86).

What roll? They almost lost to the Eagles, Giants, and Ravens down the stretch and continued their mediocre play against Jax and SD. The Patriots didn't win because they weren't the best team at the end of the season. They almost lost a number of games but got lucky. Their luck ran out in the SB. This year, the Giants were the best team for most of the season, but losing Plax killed their offense. They lost because they just aren't that good, not because they had a week off.

All things being equal, it is much better to have the bye week. Obviously, playing 2 games gives you a much better statistical chance of making the SB than if you have to play 3 games. Plus, home teams get that home cooking from the officials.

#1 seed becomes overrated when teams are average.

I'm not sure if being the No. 3 seed last year would have helped the O-Line out in the Super Bowl.

So what's your point? That you should lose in your last game to make sure you're a 3 seed instead of a 1 or 2? But then look at teams that don't play hard in their final game because their seed is locked up. They come out flat in their first playoff game.

You can argue that getting #1 doesn't guarantee you a super bowl win against (usually) 11 other qualified teams, but that's like saying having the best chance of winning a raffle doesn't guarantee your ticket is going to be called. It's obvious is what I'm saying.

So again, what was your point?

2001 Losers had the best record in the NFL.

2002 Champions were tied for the best record in the Conference at 12-4. They won the Super Bowl. The AFC team was a #1 seed

2003 Champions had the best record in football.

2004 Losers were the #1 seed in the NFC.

2005 Losers were the #1 seed in the NFC

2006 Losers were the #1 seed in the NFC

2007 Losers were the #1 team in the NFL

In every season this decade prior to the current one, at least one of the two top seeds has made the Super Bowl.

    #12 Jersey

Why because you can face facts???

Heres a reality check genius .....

OUT OF 8 TEAMS ONLY 1 HAS WON THE SUPER BOWL

What part of this do you not understand ? - #1 seeds have NOT been successful the past decade as it shows as clear as can be - #1 seeds have been the favorites to win it all but only 1 (the 03 Pats have come through) - plain and very simple - just like your posts

    #12 Jersey

Shows you don't know what you are talking about - The 2004 Steelers were a game better in the regular season at 15-1 than the world champion Patriots at 14-2

Try.... pretend if you have to, but try... to act as if you can grasp simple realities of NFL life.

    A.)

The #1 seed is NOT designed to crown the NFL Champion. It is designed to reward the team from each conference that had the best record, tiebreakers included, in their respective conferences.

    B.)

The biggest difference between the #1 seed and the #2 seed is that, if the seeds play out over the course of the playoffs, the conference championship will be played at the home of the #1 seed rather than the #2 seed.

In other words, both the #1 and #2 seeds get to play one less game than the 4 other seeds, and both are guaranteed at least one home game. Nobody from either conference is given an edge in the Super Bowl.
