This offseason likely won't have more changes than last year when Vrabel, Bruschi, Seymour, Hobbs, and Harrison all left and we brought in 12 rookies and more than a dozen free agents. We also lost Pioli and McDaniels.

The current roster includes 9 rookies and 10 free agents who weren't here plus 2 from last year's Practice Squad. This doesn't count free agents already gone (Simmons, Galloway, Matthews, Sands) or rooks on IR (Tate, McKenzie, Bussey).

Perhaps at this time next year the roster will have 22 new players (9 + 11 + 2). Perhaps not. But it seems unlikely that the overhaul will be more severe than this year.

It will be interesting to say the least. That's a lot of contracts ending, i think more then last year. I would of thought these guys would have their best season in a contract year, but that's not happening. We'll see who BB keeps or if he just goes on a shopping spree instead.

Our offseasons are always unpredictable. Sometimes we are active, while other times we are not.

One thing for certain though, I guarantee we will move back when our time to pick in the draft comes up.

I haven't gone back to check, but for some reason I thought our opening day rosters typically had about 10-12 new players, or about 20% turnover each year. If that is the case, then 2009 could be classified as a rebuilding year with 22 new players on the roster.

2009 is certainly a rebuilding year and was recognized as such before the season started. I haven't checked either, but I would think that 10-12 would be less than expected. 41-43 returnees seems a lot to me. I would think about 14-16 would be more normal.

The offense certainly isn't in a rebuilding year in 2009.

We'll see about the 2010 offseason when it comes. I don't expect as many new players as this year, but it could certainly happen. I count 14 clear openings plus some upgrades. I already have Burgess and Thomas gone and all the unrestricted free agents.

OFFENSE (24) 6 open plus upgrades
    3 Brady, Hoyer, Stanback
    5 Maroney, Taylor, Morris, Green-Ellis add 1
9 Vollmer, Light/Mankins, Koppen, Connolly, Kaczur, Ohrnberger, LeVoir add 2
    4 Moss, Welker, Edelman, Tate
    3 Baker add 2

DEFENSE (23) 6 open plus upgrades
7 Warren, Brace, Wright, Pryor add 3
7 Mayo, Guyton, Banta-Cain, Ninkovich, McKenzie add 2
    5 Butler, Wilhite, Wheatley, Bodden/Springs add 1
    4 Meriweather, McGowan, Chung, Sanders

SPECIAL TEAMS AND SPECIALISTS (6) 2 open plus upgrades
3 Ingram add 2 (need a kicker and a punter)
3 Aiken, Lockett, Alexander add 0

I agree BB is making over this whole team, there are growing pains right now..

Think he needs to take a long hard look at both Coordinators, and that might be a necessary change to compliment the new personnel.
