I've been reading quite a lot of posts in numerous threads saying that we need 2 Wide Receivers.

I don't think thats the case at all. If Tate is any use he is a good no.4 at worst and it seems that nobody is considering Edelman as a proficient starter in the absence of his big brother Wes Welker.

We have all heard now that Randy Moss played hurt last season, he should be back to his best this year.

So for me at this time the Patriots have WR1 Randy Moss, WR3 Julian Edelman and we just need one more.

This year is not blessed with WRs in the draft, my own personal no.1 binkie is Golden Tate and I'd break the bank to get him but he is likely to go too high for us.
I feel that next year's draft is going to be a much better one for wideouts. One of AJ Green, Michael Floyd and Julio Jones could well be on the radar next year if the Raiders suck like normal.
This year we possibly need a no.2 or no.4 depending on Tate but do the Patriots really want to pay out big money for a no.2 going forward with a chance to take a franchise wideout next season?

we need to find a veteran who can fill in for welker for at least a year.......then build up young talent......not waste time on guys with big measurable, but rather focus on guys who were productive in college

I say do what ever it takes to get Marshall in here now. Moss isn't going to be back after this year. This way you have your new proven #1 already in house, and ready to take over after 1 year of mentoring from Moss. It's the Marshall plan!:rocker:

    Moss
    Welker
    Edelman
    Tate
    XXXXX
    Patten

That's how I see it with Patten insurance for Welker's spot. We usually carry 5 WR, sometimes 6. I think we are plenty full on WR with the addition of one. Whether we keep 6 when Welker is back, who knows but Patten would likely be the one who's gone by then if he's not already hurt.

Will we sign a veteran or draft a guy fairly high, that's the main questioon to me but I only see one significant (meaning : one who will likely make the team) WR addition from here on out.

I love Marshall as a WR but we won't be doing "whatever it takes" to bring a scumbag like him in here.

Exactly, Moss walks after the season and then where are we ?

Bring in TO or Marshall, anything less than these two and we're screwed. The Jets defense will run rough-shot over us without another threat on the other side of the field.

Boldin, would have looked real good over there. Looks like another blown BB opportunity..............

"scumbag" is a pretty harsh word. When I said what ever it takes I was referring to this years 1st. That's not too much to give up for a league wide top 3 WR in my opinion, but then again I certainly don't consider him a scumbag.

He has a history of beating women, of insubordination to his coach, to intentionally dropping passes in at least one practice. I think scumbag was an appropriate choice of words.

Right on. Everyone seems to think we're just magically going to DRAFT a Moss replacement. Good luck with all that.

LMAO, you think Owens is a solution for 2011 - a season in which he will turn 38 near the end. Riiiiight.

Next year there are three guys who look like franchise WRs in the draft, we have most likely a very high pick to take one of them. #

We have Welker back, Edelman, and hopefully a no.2 guy in Tate.

We just might if you look at the WR in the 2011 draft. There's a better chance of that working out than Marsall . . . and Owens doesn't even belong in the conversation.

I do, I would sign him in a minute on a one-year deal, he has alot more to offer than anything else we could possibly put out over there. You tell me who would be better than TO over there ?

Don't give me this Mason, Josh Reed, or a supposed draft-pick garbage, because that's not the answer. IF we don't get TO or Marshall, we are screwed, there's no other way to look at it.

I can't believe didn't want to bring Boldin in here, ESPECIALLY, knowing Moss is gone after this season.

There's no doubt the guy made some boneheaded mistakes, but by all accounts I've heard from those who have had direct contact with the guy, he has grown up. He deserves a 2nd chance.

You were talking about AFTER Moss. So a one year deal with Owens does nothing for you and it turns THIRTY EIGHT in the first season that Moss is gone. Talk about barking up the wrong tree.

Are you serious ? You think one of these guys (Tate, Benn, LaFell or any of these other round-2 rated WRs) would bring more to the table than a proven TO ? Are you out of your mind ? Or just punch drunk on BB Koolaid again !

Dennis & Callahan on WEEI have been sniping about the Patriots not getting someone to fill in for Welker. They don't believe Edelman can fill his shoes.

    I tend to disagree.

I think Edelman can do a good enough job to take advantage of Moss double teams and make defenses pay. I don't disagree with them though that there is a possibility we will never again see the Welker of old - and should not count on someone who depends so much on his cutting ability to provide any assistance this season.

I do agree with those who noted the lack of an additional deep threat that would allow Brady to take advantage of Moss' double teams. It's also worth noting that with Moss potentially having lost a step, another Deep threat WR would be a boon and could help Moss (who might not be double teamed as much this year either, making things more difficult for other WRs).

I think this has been a bigger liability even going back to 2007 than anyone wants to acknowledge (a year when they were too focused on Moss and the record and eventually paid for the tendency late in the season.)

Anything Tate brings is great - but I don't think anyone wants to depend on that.

Looking at Moss as an aging #1, Edelman as a #3 slot/possession receiver who has shown he has very good potential, that leaves a hole at #2, and a few "if's" related to our #1 and #3.

That's not the strongest position - and is one I'd prefer be addressed. I hope it will be - I expect it will be via FA, Trade or (least likely) the draft. While I'd say there is no way the Patriots would attempt a band-aid, we've seen them do that when they had Reche Caldwell as their #1 WR a few years back.

I am talking about now, WITH Moss, then transition into the young WR you draft this year. Brady doesn't have alot of time left. Enough of the Joey Galloway experiments BB, let's get real WR's in here. Drop the Josh Reed talk, please..............

Boldin would have been perfect, BB blew it..................Didn't want to part with a low R2 and ink this guy long term knowing Randy walks, give me a break BB ?

Do you really think Patten makes it out of TC with the team? UUGGHH!!!

And while I think it is extremely likely that Tate will be available at #22, I would be shocked if BB took a WR in the first round.

But then again one could say we have 3 gaping holes on the roster right now. X receiver, OLB and RDE.

Best X receiver most likely to be available when we draft at #22 is Tate. Tate is fast, decent hands, quick twitch, tremendous YAC, and can help in the return game. But his route running is horrible by NFL standards and he may not be strong enough to beat press coverage. If we pass on Tate who is the next best X receiver after Tate? Maybe Decker, but he is recovering from a serious injury. (Day 3 pick)

Best RDE most likely to be available when we draft at #22 is Odrick. Odrick has the measurables and projects well into the 5 technique. But he has no 3-4 experience and in the bowl game last season, he didn;t do bumpus against a weak LSU O Line. If we pass on Odrick who is the next best RDE after Odrick? Maybe Wooten (2nd Round Pick)

Best OLB most likely to be available when we draft at #22 is Graham. Graham is a pass rushing animal that also plays hard against the run. Tons of TFL's against quality competition. But he lacks measurables, has no experience in the 3-4 and played on a WEAK defense. If we pass on Granham who is the next best OLB after Granham? Many options like Hughes, Kindle or Sapp. (All 2nd round players.)

Given the good fit that tate provides at the X reciever position and the fact that there are no alternatives available, it is conceivable that BB would think of taking Tate at #22.

As the 6th guy (5th if Welker is PUPed) then yes, if he's healthy. His stats look like he can still play a bit, he's just not been able to stay healthy.

I agree, I think Tate will be available at #22 and then also at #23.
