legitimate offer. They thought that he had a serious abdominal injury.

Fine, then any other team could have signed him. But that does nothing to lessen the argument against the hypothesis of this thread.

In this case, I think the Jets did the Patriots a favor. They were

delighted to get a first and third round pick for an injured player.
