    Fresh targets, anybody? Here's mine:

    Clay Harbor, TE/FB

If I'm not mistaken, we haven't chewed over this prospect at at. Harbor is a WR turned FB, with some of the strengths of each of those positions: soft hands, quickness, strength and nastiness. He's undersized for a traditional TE at 6'2.5" 252 (reported played at 10 lbs lighter) and would project to a HB role. The measurables line:

    4.62/2.70/1.64 30 40" 10'00" 4.37

I'm not thrilled with the top handful of TEs, and I think Harbor in the middle rounds could be tempting.

I certainly can see Harbor on this team more easily than Konz. Or Tebow...since he can actually play H back and might throw better, even if he can't perform circumcisions.

Besides Pouncey, for as much as a need as it is, guards are a bit under-discussed as well.

I'll go ahead and say it: I have John Jerry rated higher than Iupati. Then guys like Petrus, Smith, and Lauvao. I have Johnson rated as a free agent.

I'm also starting to think of Iupati as a backup NT, as he has the measurables and demeanor, and has stated in interviews that he prefers playing defense.

Yep...on my part, at least, it's because I'm having a lot of trouble finding guards to like in this draft. Any thoughts on Zane Beadles inside?

Unless you mean inside of an office cubicle, I'm against it.

It certainly pales to last year, when we were debated the merits of Wood, Unger, Luigs, etc.

Harbor is a very good blocker, and has experience both as a move TE and as a true fullback. Good hands, excellent speed/agility for the position--I see him as a cross between David Thomas and Heath Evans for us. Would be a good pickup if we want to emphasis the run as well as have a sneaky option in the passing game.

Oh, crap. We're still not arguing!

Okay, okay . . . how about Marshall Newhouse at guard? He played tackle in college, started 30+ games, and is considered fairly technically sound. He was tops in the 40, 20-yard shuttle, and 3-cone, so he has good mobility, and he's reportedly also very good at run blocking. At 6'3 #319 he's got some serious size and strength. At the East-West game he played every position on the line but center, and did well. Why not bring him in?

    6035
    Weight: 319
    40 Yrd Dash: 4.99
    20 Yrd Dash: 2.93
    10 Yrd Dash: 1.74
    225 Lb. Bench Reps: 25
    Vertical Jump: 25
    Broad Jump: 08'01"
    20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.60
    3-Cone Drill: 7.40
    40 Time: 4.99

    Marshall Newhouse, TCU, NFL Draft - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com

    Let the arguing commence!

I don't really see Harbor as a backfield guy; I don't think he's ever carried the ball, at least not in college. He seems more of a strict Move TE, instead of a lead blocker who would be used btwn the QB & RB. I see zero Heath Evans in him, but I do see a lot of David Thomas in him - and that's not a bad thing, at all.

As for the Guards, I don't like any of them before the 6th round. If Newhouse, Shelley Smith or Chris DeGeare are still avail. (ass-uming Shawn Lauvao is gone), and all of our other needs - WR, OLB, CB, DE, ILB - have been filled at least once, then I'd be OK with one of them - or Ted Larson - in the 6th/7th to replace O'Burger, Bustey, Connelly or Wendell.

How about Scott Long, WR, from Louisville.. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Pats add him. Especially after the 3 cone time he put in. A whopping 6.45. Best that I've ever seen.

With his height (6'2), vertical (41") and his cutting ability, he would be devestating as an outside receiver in this offense if he could learn it.

And he's been worked out by Chad O'Shea already by the Patriots..

EDIT: OH. Almost forgot.. Thanks to BritPat for mentioning Long in his sig.

If anybody wants to see what a 6'2", 214-lb man looks like running a 6.45 cone, here's Long's combine workout -- pretty amazing:

(I'm not too sold on him as a football player, though.)

What are your concerns about him as a football player?

The thing about his numbers is that those were done AFTER his recovery from a torn ACL in 2008. And he showed in his senior year that he really had no ill effects from it..

I think Jermaine Cunningham, OLB/DE from Florida isn't getting much love. He has been hurt and didn't get to work out for teams but has size (6'3, 266) to play either OLB spots or as DE in ceratain packages and was a good player at Florida.

He could be brought in to replace Woods or Ninkovich eventually carving out a career on special teams and as a backup.

Frankly unless it's Pouncey, it looks doubtful that the Pats would draft a college guard to play guard in the pros. I think the way to scout guards for the Pats is to scout the college TACKLES that would have the athleticism, strength, and technique to play guard for the Pats at the pro level. Look at the college tackle and ask yourself, could I see this guy playing inside?

I came away with an initial impression of underwhelmed, but it seems the tools are there, perhaps Coach O'Shea and the veterans can sharpen them.

Side Note: patchick, the doc gave me a fresh bottle of good pain killers today, fair warning of an extreme goofiness risk in posting. [IMG]

Correct me if I am wrong DeB (I am not baiting you this time)? Wasn't Long kind of an underachiever at Louisville? It seems he was 4th on the team in receptions and only 27 of them. Why?

Has anyone discussed the QB from Florida, His name is Tim Tebow. I'm anxious to find out if anyone has an opinion on him one way or another.

Could be, this stuff is full potency, as opposed to the expired tablets from 2007. [IMG]

It's rumored he'd make a great armchair quarterback.

Didn't Cunningham have a workout recently?

    Edit: Yes; yes he did.

Too bad he couldn't finish his 40, or (I ass-ume) perform any COD drills afterwards. Everything else looked good, though.

What are you going to do with the bad pain-killers? I might need them in 2 weeks.

Mardy Gilyard seems to be a guy who would be a good fit with one of the 2nd round picks if Damian Williams is off the board.
