In the case of Winslow,I am wondering what happened in the knee to miraculously allow Winslow to join the team when just a few weeks ago it was reported that he failed the physical.

Is there some miraculous knee treatment that I am not aware of that prepares the knee for NFL play in just a few weeks?

Or how truthful are these physical reportings? .....is saying they failed the player physical just a way of saying we tested you out but don't need you right now but maybe later under certain circumstances?

Cant quite understand what the situation was here when he initially failed but now passed in such a small amount of time, especially if the knee was the suspected reason for failing the test the first time.

Maybe his knee really did fail the physical.... but they're desperate enough to give him a try.

It's not like they're building a future with him.... They just need him for 4-6 weeks while Hernendez is out. After that, Winslows knee problems are his own issue to deal with. That's the NFL.

I'm also sure the contract will be a play for pay type. He won't get paid sitting on the bench.

Maybe thee was a change in his condition, 2-3 weeks can matter, then again maybe they just need him a little more now and will take the chance.

he got the boot from Seattle for his salary impact. Yea he has a knee problem but I'd say we didn't sign him before the season due to salary and not really needing him. Now that we need him and his $3.3 mill salary isn't guaranteed, he is on the roster. He has played in 16 games for the past 3 seasons hovering around 70 catches a year in that time frame. He is still a good player and can help this team if he gets the offense.

    2009 77 for 884 yards & 5 TD's.

    2010 66 for 730 yards & 5 TD's.

    2011 75 for 763 yards & 2 TD's.

So we just signed a TE with 2,377 receiving yards & 12 TD's in the past 3 seasons. Pretty good if you ask me.

There was no change in his condition. There was a change in the Patriots level of need. He will likely have to sign a waiver on the knee. There is also the matter of money. Don't know what he was looking for initially vs. what they were willing to pay vs. what he is getting now.

Well said, as the season progresses and needs arise the criteria changes...

Last year when we were "loaded" or at least well stocked at CB early on, only to see that fade away due to injuries..

First there are conflicting reports on whether he failed the physical.

Second, we don't know whether they were serious about signing him when they had him in the first time or they were just looking at him for the shadow roster.

Third, they may have thought his knee wasn't that bad, but not good enough to sign with a healthy Hernandez. Also, their concerns may be that they believe he can be ok on that knee for a short period of time, but not hold up for an entire season on it. In this case, they just need him for a month or a month and a half since Hernandez and Shianco will be returning by midseason.

there was never anything definitive over the pats signing hoomanawanui over winslow.....it could have been at mcdaniels recommendation.

I would not be suprised to see hoomanawanui dumped if winslow does OK.

josh's boys have not been that impressive......lloyd has been OK, but the others have been a net loss

    1. That "hoo" dude needs to get dumped if Winslow can throw a semi-decent block....

    2. if we signed Kellen before season start, his salary would be gauranteed, now it is not....that is a GREAT reason and difference for signing him now

if Kellen can get w/ the program, he is a very, very good pass catching TE (no clue about his blocking skills) if he still has it....and if he still does, an offensive package w/ Gronk, Hern (when he returns), K2, Lloyd and Ridley is absolutely insane

Add in the non guaranteed salary and I think all factors combined make perfect sense.

My understanding was that he did not fail the physical and a potential reason why he wasn't signed for Week 1 was that the Pats would have to honor the $3.3m he was owed. Plus need, of course.

How do you not realize that him signing means the report is questionable, not the knee has recovered in a week.
The report was also refuted when it was written.

I think there is absolutely no way Winslow would be here if he failed the physical.. That said I reaaally hope he went to Germany & visited Kobe/A-Rod's knee guy sometime the last few weeks.

There were tweets that went both ways. Ones that claimed he'd failed his physical and others that said he passed. So, who knows..
