Now the NFL can get on with its business of making money. It starts with its nearly $4 billion TV contract for the 2006 season.

Johnson, who has been low-profile with the Jets and in league meetings, teamed up yesterday with Jonathan Kraft, the son of Patriots owner Robert Kraft, to devise a revenue-sharing plan. Solving that issue was virtually mandatory before the owners could approve Upshaw's plan, which one source called a "no-brainer," because it wasn't much different than what Tagliabue had on the table when negotiations broke down Sunday night in Manhattan.

The Johnson-Kraft plan was blended with a plan proposed by the Steelers and Ravens and that's what the owners approved. But the key elements were primarily in the Jets-Patriots plan. Johnson was pleased he had made such a big contribution. "It takes you a while to get into it," he said. "Football is a complicated enterprise."

It was interesting that the Jets and Patriots, at war since Bill Parcells escaped from New England in 1997, teamed up to save the league from itself.

"Woody is great," Jonathan Kraft said. "It was great to be able to work together on this."

.

No doubt that Jonathan Kraft is a capable heir. I don't think Bob Kraft would have left unless it was something important like a religious pilgrimage that had been planned long ago. Even if it was though, leaving at one of the most important meetings the Kraft's have had to attend as owners of the Patriots says quite a lot about the elder Kraft's confidence on his son's capabilities.

Compare and contrast Jon Boy with Chuck and Pat Sullivan.

I'd rather not. Compare would take no time, and contrast would take way too much time. :D

Jonathan is well equipped, and empowered, to make any and all decisions for the Kraft companies.

Patrick would have punched out a few of the owners.
