With Rodney Harrison unsigned, do we expect our in-season shadow roster to include both Rodney Harrison and Junior Seau? That's a nice familiar duo to have waiting in the wings as reserves for those seemingly inevitable late-in-the-season injuries. It would be a pleasant luxury that not many teams enjoy. Of course, that's assuming both stay in shape.

Is this something we can expect? Or do we think if Rodney leaves, that it's for good?

Hard to say if Rodney's on the shadow roster (which I take as : we'll call you if we get a few injuries and we need help) or if he's just waiting to get 100% and then rejoin regardless.

If everything went well in the draft and the remaining days of free agency, I'd say Rodney on the shadow roster would be the first choice.

We can't count on players on the Practice Squad.

We can't on players that used to play for us that we didn't sign to the roster.

Sure, the patriots will have a lot of players on speed dial. We always do, as does any competent team's personnel department.

If Harrison is healthy and wants to play and has an offer from someone else, he'll be there in a sec. We've lost several shadow roster players and Practice Squad in the last few years. We have a roster during the season. It has 53 players, plus those on the injury lists who are not available for the season, except for the PUP players who would have no Training Camp or preseason.

I'm sure many thought that Izzo and Alexander didn't need to be signed. After all, we could just keep them on the shadow roster. NOT! Alexander was signed. Izzo was not. Izzo will play for the jets.

If we want Harrison for this year, we should add him to the roster, and have him on the PUP list if necessary. The same goes for Tank Williams. Colvin and Seau were different situations. They had retired and had no intention of playing. I don't think that is the case with Harrison.

I have this distinct feeling that this year's Shadow Roster will have some pretty big names there. Seau, Colvin, Harrison and Bruschi perhaps. As well as possibly Vrabel and Willie McG if either is cut by KC and Cleveland, respectively.

    Any Others?

Tedy will be back for his last season. If he is cut earlier, he will go back to his family, and will NOT be in football shape waiting for a call. That being said, I expect Bruschi to start our first regular season game. Neither Guyton nor the rookies are likely to be ready to start on Day One.

Great points. You have to know who you can truly rely on. I would also like to add that I thought Colvin added something to that D that had been missing, and no not AD. He just is wiley and knows how to play OLB for them, he really reads the game well, setting the edge or getting into his lane. I would like to see him again.

Neither Colvin or Seau had retired. Both were rehabbing injuries at the beginning of last season. One signed with another team and was cut. No one else picked him up. Seau made it clear once ready he would play for us or not at all. I have a feeling Rodney will make a similar decision.

KC just paid Vrabel a $1M roster bonus, they won't be cutting him. Willie is DONE. 2008 was his final year with Cleveland (at a pay cut in a 3 man rotation) and he'll be 38 in December. He's trying to get a media gig. Bruschi will be on the roster. Colvin and Seau remain as potential shadow roster options, but we'd have to be pretty darn desperate so hopefully they don't get that call.

The Shadow Roster is pretty hard to predict at this point, because you're trying to figure out who would be willing to play yet at the same time won't find a job in the next six months. Regardless, I'll throw this out there for each position. Don't crucify me for some of these; remember, I'm trying to figure out who won't land a job elsewhere.

    QB: Tim Rattay, Trent Green
    RB: Warrick Dunn, Shaun Alexander
    FB: Lorenzo Neal
    WR: Ike Hilliard, Kelley Washington
    TE: Bubba Franks
    OT: Jon Runyan, Jason Fabini
    G: John Welbourn, Jason Whittle
    C: Mike Flynn
    DE: Kenny Smith, Orpheus Roye
    DT: La'Roi Glover, Rod Coleman
    OLB: Donnie Edwards, Andre Frazier
ILB: Monty Beisel, Junior Seau, Derek Smith
CB: Chris McAlister, Ty Law, Patrick Surtain
S: Tank Williams, Mike Brown, Corey Chavous
    K: Matt Stover, John Carney
    P: I have no idea

I think we are the only team in the league who seems to have a reserve of expirienced players who if they dont make our team, or are retired, seem to wait around for the chance to come play for BB again. It's amazing. Apparently, Rodney is trying to make a come back, but I hope BB is not banking on it. I would like to see him on as a reserve, and go out and get a Roy Williams or Sharper or draft a good SS. then if there are any injuries, maybe give RH a come back try. It hurts to say this but, I just don't think his body can do what his mind still can... And unless we have a stupid year in terms of injuries AGAIN this year, no SEAU :( I love him. I hope he goes in the HOF as a PAT!

Nope. Harrrsion will likely retire, and be available only on the Shdoiw roster possibly. If he does want to do so, the Pats might let him go to San Diego to sign for a day and retire there, as a Charger.

This is a good list, but you should include players that visited and were not signed. Furrey, Chris Carr, etc. Also former players also have a greater chance of getting resigned.

Harrison will pull a Seau. Mid-season when the injuries pile up, Rodney will show up in great shape, and kick some butt.
