It's bad juju to be sure. Even here in CT, where obesity is supposedly some of the lowest in the country, it's very noticeable.

The crap American kids eat + videogames + being made fearful of the outdoors = climbing obesity rates.

Wow. The south should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. This is why everyone should take a moment out of their days to ridicule a fat kid when you see one. Ridicule him/her enough... and they'll eventually do something about it. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go drive around to find a fat kid to make fun of. :rocker:

LOL, how fitting that your signature quotes a guy named RexRyansgut:singing:

Seriously though, the health care costs of this country will be even more burdensome than it already is...not to mention the loss in work productivity. And yes, self esteem is a casualty of being fat all by itself let alone having someone ride you for it. At this rate though being fat will be the norm and slender folk will be the ones bearing the brunt of jokes.

Taking time out of your day to ridicule a fat kid will accomplish one of two things...

    1. The fat kid will lose weight, and take away from the obesity epidemic which will, in turn, help out future health care costs.

    -or-

    2. The fat kids will kill themselves which not only helps out with the obesity epidemic and future health care costs, but also helps population control.

No wonder we're raising a nation full of bullies.....just listen to what passes for humor from the adults.

Shouldn't be to hard to find one, maybe you can just look out your window instead of driving around.

You have to look at from a woman's perspective Flex. You & I know guys will call one another "fat phuks" all the time. But a woman would never call a friend that.

So for once, I understand MrsP's concern here. We're from mars and she's from venus...and don't ever forget it!

Perhaps you would appreciate it if you didn't have the personality of a frog?

Oh, I have no problem with you calling one another "fat phuks." I wouldn't even have a problem with you calling me a "fat phuk.' Nor would I have trouble referring to any of you by the same....We all kinda "know" one another and joshing and name calling among friends is generally acceptable - unless, of course, you know it isn't because it's hurtful. I don't have a problem with being called a "fat phuck" because I don't break 100 pounds soaking wet. However, if I were 300+ pounds, yeah, it would probably be inappropriate and hurtful.

What does bother me is people mocking children - even jokingly. Sometimes we, as adults, have a hard time hearing "joke" from "cruel," how on earth would we expect children to be able to make that distinction?

And, honestly, I especially do not like jokes about suicide....and I make no apologies for that. The sad truth is, it's an epidemic in our children and it's roots are being found in having been mocked and bullied.

I appreciate your understanding, but we're from the same place - we just view it differently is all.

I say this with some seriousness, but I think mocking a fat kid would make the problem worse. They'll cope by tucking into a half gallon or ice cream or somesuch.

So wait, you think that I actually drive around and ridicule kids that are overweight?

    Don't you?

I just taught my kids it was ok because I know a guy who does it.

Nah, I'm too politically correct for that. I cut myself and cry when my friends make homosexual references in jest to one another.

I was astonished with how fat we've become as a country.
Then I had tears coming out of my eyes as I read some of the comments.
Can someone please 5 star this quality thread!

I five starred it, but it only went up to three stars.

And I have an alternative view to offer on the whole "bullying" thing. IMO, I don't think we're raising a nation of bullies. Instead, I think we're raising a nation of complete and utter pussies. But that's just me...

I agree with both you AND MrsP in this thread! A little from each of you.

I was a "husky" kid growing up. I hated people calling me fat, but my way of dealing with it was to beat the crap outta the kids that said it.

    I was both fat AND a bully!:D

Now I'm just growing old and eating tofu & Metamucil all the time.

God, that's just sad, PR. LOL

I can't get all worked up about fat people or healthy eating. It must be horrible to be fat and it must be horrible not to be able to eat whatever the he!! you want.

We all end up dying anyhow....personally, if it ever comes down to choosing between a filet and a baked potato or metamucil and tofu - I'll die a day or two early - and do it with a full belly and a smile.

(And if I wanna give my grandkids a pepsi and a twinkie before I go, I dam well oughta be able to.)
