Once, there was a message board
Enthralled by the angry losing hordes
Two sides took up on the site
To battle everyday and every night
Twas a war most fierce that raged non stop
An argument of which player to drop
There was one player named Tom Brady
Who many thought should soon be traded
Once a fearless hero in the snow
Now some thought his skills were terribly low
The ingenious leader feared by all
Had from fans grace taken a fall
The arguing became such a chore
That the sides declared a Civil War
The blood was spilt upon both sides
With every post shot down with denies
It was a horrible scene between the fans
Who fought to the death in loyal bands
One side claimed it was but a brief lapse,
The other sensed a complete collapse
Pacifists tried to change the subject
Discussing simple topics to which none could object
Some would distract with threads of how the refs were fools,
As they watched the Colts defense bend the rules
    These attempts did not succeed
To stop the bitter, collective stampede
Twas the worst Civil War since Gettysburg
With both sides having posts deemed most absurd
When the dust had cleared both sides saw
The war had been declared a draw
It seemed their bickering had little effect
    Upon the management's intellect
Both sides realized and would have to cope
The war had been a worthless goat-rope

Best post so far today. Very well done. There does seem to be two camps. You can read the pessimists who think the game has passed Belichick by, that our coordinators are the worst ever, that Brady is done for his career, that Mayo was a wasted pick, etc, etc, etc. While I am disappointed in the performance of the last two weeks, I am in the opposing camp. The Patriots still control their destiny, and I believe they will win out. We will worry about the playoffs when they come. Call me a homer if you want, but I still think this team can win it all.

I'm sort of in the middle. I know my history better than to ever write any team off, let alone one led by Tom Brady and yeah, I think the 'season is over' remarks are a bit premature.

But I guess my faith in the coaching staff is dwindling. I've never seen a Patriots team post 2000 so poor at situational play and just plain confused. When have we ever had to constantly burn timeouts before the 2 minute mark? When has this team ever done anything like getting 2 consecutive delay of game calls? It has nothing to do with the talent or what I've seen on the scoreboard, just watching this team doesn't give you the confidence you used to get in the past. You would expect better from a BB coached team. Not saying it is all coaching, alot of it is the players too yes. But it all starts at the top.

I'm not giving up on TB or BB, this will always be my team and I'll watch every down of every game for this and every season until my final down.

We've all been to the mountaintop with this team, this may be a short or a drastic decline back down. Feels like I've been here before with the Pats and although I may not look upon them with ****eyed optimism 24/7 for the remainder of this particular season I know I'll be right here with my Patriots gear and on this forum for (hopefully) many years to come!

I hope this makes us all better Patriots fans. Whatever adjustments and personnel changes they make for the team itself is beyond our control but if more downs than ups are in store for us maybe if we ever get back up to the mountaintop we can look down from where we've been as fans and savor it even more...let's not be Yankees fans considering championship seasons a birthright and just enjoy the game!

Nicely done - and surprisingly accurate considering the reaction by most fans here.

Keep the faith - being outclassed by New Orleans and embarrassed today, after seeing how angry the players were (Brady included) hopefully we'll see some fire heading into the final four games. I almost think they believed it "could never happen to them". Now they're realizing that at 7-5 they're really not any better than most average teams, and hopefully it fires them up to finally want to be playing at the level they should be at.

Being critical of the coordinators is not an attack upon Belichick or Brady.

The NFL, with the cap, is a coaches league.

When is the last time this team paid even the avg salary for an NFL coordinator? It's been a while.

Did the players display similar 'anger' and 'fire' and emotions after the Saints game? I assumed they did, which is why today's effort is so frustruating :(

I didn't see it. It's one thing to lose to an elite team - while they were frustrated I think they looked at it as a realization that New Orleans was better than they thought. I don't think they thought much of Miami - and they know that they let this one get away.

When you hear players saying they need to "look into the mirror" that's a pretty serious statement. And it's one we haven't heard this season. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

That's the thing. It used to be just 1 or 2 of these 'wake up call' games. This year we've had 5 'wake up calls'. How many do you need. Eh well let's just pray something turns this team around in the next 4 weeks.

Well put. After being embarrassed on national television on Monday night football, today was the day for fire and emotions.

If this is the Civil War, then I think we are in the middle of the battle of Antietnam, one of the costly battles of the war that had no strategic significance- which is to say it ended in a draw (which is what most threads do anyway).

It's writing like this that probably lost the Civil War for the Confederacy. Nobody could understand written orders sent by messenger from headquarters to the front lines. What the hell is "a worthless goat-rope"?

The part I don't get is...do we have to win a Superbowl every year to keep these pissant fans happy?

There are going to be down years and rebuilding years. This may be one. They lose coordinators and jettison experienced players and yet they are still competitive and entertaining. It takes time to recover. You can't always win. They may gell by year end and they may not. Haven't they given us enough lately to be happy and grateful, or do we turn on our players and coaches. They will reload and be back on top. The system is too good not to. The Steelers are having an off year. Maybe they should scrap their coach, quarterback, and system, too.

I personally think the Pioli/BB duo was getting stale and their recent drafts had reflected that. I believe the shakeup has really helped in that department and the future looks bright.

I'm not sure if you are pointing out something of an oxymoron (Is there a "worthwhile" goat rope?) or are unacquainted with the phrase "goat rope". I actually thought it was a Navy term (having heard it frequently used when I was on active duty) meaning a confused or chaotic situation, but I'm not sure that's the actual origin of the phrase.

Unfortunately he couldn't conduct himself in a civil manner and became far too hostile to other posters. That obviously isn't permitted and the mods are all in agreement with me on that. As a matter of fact I wasn't the one who banned him, however I gave the go ahead and I stand behind that decision.

But let's keep this post on topic and we won't dicuss this any further - but hopefully this answered your question

I'm personally very concerned about the number of posters on the board who do nothing other than post senseless, vitriolic and down-right offensive posts. The game thread was full of them, and the board has been since the game finished.

What happened to people having a sense of perspective? Discussing and debating things in a civilised and respectful manner?

Some of the comments and threads since ten past four (your time) shouldn't have been allowed to see the light of day, yet others are completely ignored and over-looked when they make good points. There's seemingly a majority of posters on this board who should be ashamed with themselves, and don't deserve to follow this team and experience the success it has had and will have in the future (and it will).

I do not like the direction the forum is going in, I've seen it elsewhere in other sports with other teams. What are you all, Eagles fans? Jets fans?

See I think I'm just interpreting it differently, which we all do with artistic license and poetry....

When I read "worthless goat-rope" I instantly thought of this little fella.... 275888632_b931df8ddd.jpg
He appears calm, the goat seems calm..why, he's even wearing a little bow tie and is holding a cane! :D no rope is needed!

Whereas this example could be referred to as a bull-rope:
    2754080343_25654f18af.jpg
Note: No walking stick, no bow tie.... a bull-rope would certainly be worthwhile in this situation!

I think we are all just frustrated with what we have been used to seeing from this team.. I was pretty positive even after the NO game, but the colts loss did something to this team , it has shaken its confidence.. Some things we used to count on

    Second half adj

    Making the play when needed..

    No mental errors..

All are happening, and that is what is alarming..

We are still in first, but the rest of the schedule is not all gimme games.. We still had hope with the bye but that went away today..

No actually you don't. Some people seem determined to turn everything into a *****fest around here lately.

Put me in the disappointed but not panicking camp and I do think the many changes over the past year or so have had a greater impact on locker room leadership (Bruschi, Harrison) than on the field.
