I remember a recent thread detailing why the Pats would beat the Steelers. The basis of the thread was that we had just lost to the Browns by a serious margin and based on past performance we were likely to rebound. The basis of this thread is similar.

I went back as far as 2001 checking the W/L record of the patriots against divisional opponents. Since then, we have never lost to the same opponent twice in the same season.

    Code:
    	2001	2002	2003	2004	2005	2006	2007	2008	2009
NYJ	LW	WL	WW	WW	WW	WL	WW	WL	LW
BUF	WW	WW	LW	WW	WW	WW	WW	WW	WW
MIA	LW	LW	WW	WL	WL	WL	WW	LW	WL
I believe that the tone leading in to this game, having the previous loss in recent memory, will be similar to the tone leading in to the Steeler's game after having been scalded by the Browns loss. The Patriots will remember the loss to the Jets and will be more willing to take coaching advice to heart. They will also work harder to overcome any failures from that game.

This is a tenacious team with a competitive spirit. They will fight hard for this one and I have no doubt that every one of them will show up on game day prepared and engaged.

I believe the only time we have lost twice to the same team in one year was in 2006 to the Colts. I could be mistaken but im pretty sure.

Otherwise we lost to the Rams in 2001 and beat them in the Superbowl and we lost to the Steelers in 2004 and beat them in the AFC championship game.

I dont mean to be devils advocate but the Jets or any other division opponent have never been this competitive, so this year may be as hard as ever to keep this streak going.

There's a hidden stat in here: The Pats usually split with the Dolphins.

EDIT: Although, it apparently means good things when the Pats beat the Dolphins twice in a season.

I was really only looking at divisional games, but even if you include these others, the statistical result is still overwhelming.

    Yes and yes!

I expect the Pats to join the field all but foaming at the mouth. I may even gain a new sig pic. I really can't wait for this game! The jest are not even going to know what hit them, although they may suspect it was something like this:

While I do agree with the conventional wisdom that BB is good at these repeat matchups, the one thing that bugs me about all the various "Pats hardly ever lose in XYZ scenario" stats is simply that the Pats haven't lost a whole lotta games over the last 10 years period. It's a classic case of causation vs correlation.

I see your point, but at the same time, this stat has as much merit as any other. No one really knows what will happen next Monday and no stat exists that can predict any game with certainty. My point here is only that I know that our guys are going to show up to play hard given there is a check already in the loss column from week 2. They will hold nothing in reserve and I expect them to be very fired up from start to finish.
