There is no doubt that the next four games are going to be the most hyped games of the year. So,lets take a look at them as to their importance to the Patriots season.

Colts- tomorrows game with the Colts is important in that the Colts are an AFC team. Home field advantage in the playoffs might be on the line but I doubt it. Don't forget we did win 2 of the 3 SB's playing the AFCCG away. Having said all that, I think the Patriots win it and it should be a great game.

Jets- Certainly more important than the Colts game and I consider it a must win game regardless of beating the Colts. They beat us in the first game and we can't afford to lose 2 to them.

Saints- Assuming that we beat the Colts and the Jets, the Saints game will be pure entertainment. They still might be unbeaten and so we would want to spoil that for them and get a W, but that's all the importance I put on that game.

Fins- 2nd in importance only to the Jets game. If we beat the Jets and Colts, a win over the Fins would all but wrap up the playoffs unless something totally weird happens over the rest of the season.

OK, tell me how I'm wrong.

Re: The patriots next 4 games.

Every game is just as important as the next. The only time I'd put anything more into it is if it is actually a must win (elimination) game. Ok, did I drink too much Belichick cool-aid? I just can't believe some people are just considering the game at NO just for "entertainment". I want to win that game just as much as any other. I could care less about who the opponent is nor their record, I care about the W.

I don't get this New Orleans game "just for entertainment"....if they lose..it's an L!! This team already has 2...and if they can win all 4, it puts them in a really strong position. Yes, division games are a bit MORE important..but an L is an L...and if they lose to New Orleans..it's one game back from the other teams that win.

OK, tell me how the Saints game is as important as the Jets, Fins , and Colts games. Other than being another W, I don't view it that way.

Re: The patriots next 4 games.

Every win matters. We could win every game but the Saints, but if the Colts only lose 2 games, it won't matter if we beat them or the jets, etc. Anyways, our focus really shouldn't be on the Colts (in terms of getting a bye), it should be on the Broncos/Bengals/Steelers. All that matters is we win more games than those two teams. Anyways, I'm certainly not worried about the division. We have a 2 game lead over the Jets and I just don't think they (or the Dolphins) are good enough to win the division.

Re: The patriots next 4 games.

Patsnutme are you fing stupid? If the pats win against the colts, theres a very good chance that the colts would loose another one between the ravens and texans. This would give em the same amount of loss as the pats (assuming they keep winning). This would move the pats into atleast second place b/c they would have tie breaker over the colts. The saints gm is really important b/c if they loose that would give em three losses, where as if they win...theres a good chance they will move up in the afc standings b/c like i said colts have a L b/w the ravens and texans

Re: The patriots next 4 games.

Don't see how we can bea the coltsies. colitis-ies.

Have you seen how quick manning is?

Key is, obviously, to get pressure on manning, whilst not giving up the pass.

My idea, crazy though it may be, is to play kind of a 3-2-6 and have a cb or safety blitz him all the time.

somehow they need to get pressure-itis on him.

Only game I might argue with you is the 4th game against the Dolphins. Provided we beat the Jets, I feel the Dolphins can lose at the Panthers and the Bills over the next 3 weeks. Pats final game at Houston might decide the last bye in the AFC.

Re: The patriots next 4 games.

If we want the bye, we may very well need to run the table. Sure, it's possible we could get a bye with a 13-3 record or even 12-4, but this team should make it's own destiny and not rely on other teams to lose a couple games. I don't want this team to have to go into tie-breaking scenarios because they lost a game or two. You want to avoid that, you win out. It's as simple as that. IF we lose another game, then we can worry about tie-breaking scenarios, etc.

OK Marley. asking someone for they are "f'ing stupid" is not what we consider civil conversation. However since you said it to me I won't take the action I would if you had said it to someone else. Don't want people to think I'm all sensitive

But call me or anyone else "f'ing stupid" again and you won't be around for the Jets game.

Now for the rest of your reply, it's unreadable so I don't have a response.

Re: The patriots next 4 games.

Personally, I think your nuts. And if anyone suggested to BB that a game was just "pure entertainment" and not terribly important I think he'd take their head off.

All 4 games are important. I understand the importance of division games, but right now we're in control of the division. Wins against the Jets and Phins are still very important, no doubt about it. But the games against Indy and NO are even more important as far as I'm concerned.

I don't want to just win the division with an 11-5 record and make it to the playoffs as an also-ran. If the Pats want to establish themselves as a top 3 team and a bona fide Super Bowl favorite the road goes through Indy and NO right now. Both teams are 8-0, and NO will very likely be 10-0 when we play them.

To be the best you have to beat the best. I know it's not the playoffs now, but there is tremendous importance to both games. Beat the Colts and we break their grip on the AFC, and re-establish ourselves as the dominant team. The NO game could easily be a preview of the SB, and we want to learn everything we can from that game and figure out schemes that will maximize our success. I understand that as a non-conference game a loss has a lesser impact on our playoff tiebreakers than conference and division games, but as a bragging rights game and possible SB preview it has immense significance.

Go 2-2 in the next 4 games and we are 8-4. If we beat the Jets and Fish and lose to Indy and NO we will be 8-4 and considered a second class contender. We'll have proven that we are a very good team that can beat up on the weak teams but can't beat the other top teams. If we beat Indy and NO and end up 8-4 we will be considered a first class contender by virtue of knocking off the top 2 teams. That will carry a lot of weight come playoff time, and give us a lot of confidence no matter who we play.

Re: The patriots next 4 games.

I think the Colts game is most important and the other 3 are all the same.

The reason is I have absolutely no doubt that we win the division, so seeding, a bye and home field are most important.

Please don't tell BB that I posted this thread.

Now you seem to all about how the team is "viewed". First making the playoffs is top priority and to do that you have to win your division. Where you are seeded is secondary. I might remind people that we didn't make the playoffs last year because of our division record.

How many people viewed the Giants as "legit" playoff contenders a couople of years ago? Didn't matter, did it?

For me every game is important. It's all about the chili, the jumbo shrimp cokktail, the beer etc. I really don't care what anybody else thinks, what the standings are or even what the players think. It's been this way ever since the Pats stunk and the big picture was terrible. Adopting the notion that every game is an event unto itself was imperative. When they started winning I didn't change and the next game is still the most important one. I know what you're saying, but I refuse to let the attitude that it's okay if they lose a certain game because there are more important ones ahead get in my head. It would take all of the air out of my Patriots game day.

We hang out here all week talking up the next game and invariably someone always posts that what we've been hammering on isn't as important as a future game. I say :confused2: whatever floats your boat Mr., but you're not going to sink mine.

Re: The patriots next 4 games.

I won't rat you out to BB. But it's much more than how others view us.

The 2005 Pats team had enough to win the division, but just wasn't good enough to make a serious playoff run. I don't want to be like that team, or the 2008 Dolphins who won the division but everyone knew they were headed for a 1st round loss.

This team has as much talent and depth as any team in the NFL. But we haven't executed consistently.

I already know we're better than Miami and the Jets. I want to see this team prove it belongs in the elite class. Beating Miami and NY won't convince me. Beating Indy and NO will.

Re: The patriots next 4 games.

It's two sets of two for me.

The Jets and Fins games are the most important, they almost wrap up the division. If we go in as a #4 seed, hopefully playing well, that's OK. We would still be a top contender to win the AFC.

The Colts and Saints are real nice as they'd give us a better seed, more HF, maybe a bye. But they're bonuses to me. The first goal is to make the playoffs, the second goal is to be playing well going into the playoffs, the third goal is a great seed. They're my goals anyway. We can lose to the Saints and Colts and still be in good shape for goals 1 & 2.
