I'd like to contrast Belichick's approach to that suffered by our kids in primary school here. Here's an instructive anecdote from some years back:

Our kid (must have been around 9 at the time) came home from school with a paper with a big "Great Job!" scrawled on it in red.

"That's nice," we said.

"Not really," he responded, "everyone gets that."

What message teachers think they are sending when they compliment kids for shoddy work is beyond me. They might think they are "building confidence." Actually they are really saying something more like "I don't think you are capable of any better than this."
