For a long time, I've wondered why so many poeple watch something with such little importance? It really amazes me and the pomp & circumstance that accompanies this fiasco embodies much of what is wrong with our culture...in my opinion of course.

It's just awards for Hollywood, not an international peace summit. Oscars aren't up there with Nobel prizes.

Just a bunch of people who are about as important as any of us. They're just more recognizeable and better looking after cosmetic surgery.:D

Anyone else think it's all over-blown?

Garbage, a bunch of Pervert Millionaires all getting together to tell each other how wonderful they are, nothing but insulting trash comes out of Hollywood today, their fascination with sex and especially The F word is amazing, it seems as though they have lost their ability to make any kind of a movie without panting, grunting sex and thier constant cursing trying to sound like street punks, f--k them.

You could easily replace "Oscars" with "The SuperBowl" or "British Royal Family".

    It's all an entertaining diversion.

So Argo won best picture, of the movies I saw that were nominated I would of gone with Lincoln.

    1. Lincoln
    2. Zero Dark 30
    3. Argo
    4. Silver Linings playbook

Argo was very good movie, so I have no problem with it winning.

I plan on watching the rest of them on DVD, except for Les Miserable.

You have to go see Life of Pi. Brilliant. It would be second on my list because my favorite was Lincoln, too.

    The Oscars....hmmm....oh, that Oscars...:hurt:

The Superbowl is a lot different than the Oscars. The Oscars would be the ceremony that follows the actual game. Unless it's the Patriots, I'm not sure I've ever watched one.

The Oscars embody today's society. A lot of useless nonsense that seems to think more highly of themselves, than they should. The only thing about the Oscars I'm ever interested in, is the after photos of the hottest chics and what lingerie they may have dressed in. Who wins what for when and why I couldn't be bothered with.

How highly should they think of themselves?

If you think about it, our popular art forms are now film and audio recording. It's not as if they make super-bowl-like events out of formal poetry readings or landscape painting. So why should our greatest performing artists be treated like nobodies, when they've gone to the tops of their fields? Or is this some kind of selective socialism? This sure sounds like envy to me.

That said, I'm very tired of "what everybody was wearing" stories.

I've never understood the allure of watching any of the award shows. It's rare the hosts are funny and the presentations are so contrived and drawn out. The reactions from the winners and losers as scripted as any reality TV program. My wife used to watch them all Oscar's, Grammy's, Emmy's, Golden Globe's, MTV and even crap like the Nickelodeon or Teen Choice. Thank god she's soured on them. Honestly though the worst of them all? The ESPY's. As much as I love sports I can't stomach that and it was my greatest defense when telling my wife that all award shows are crap. Do you see me watching the ESPY's? Hell no.

Sorry. Can't help you. I love movies, but the narcissism on award shows is nauseating. My girls love them and I literally had to leave the house because I kept walking through to make fun of the frauds on that show. I almost lost it when I say Russel Crow singing some musical number. That's when I left and went down for a beer. I was a cat in a dogpound at my house last night.

I've seen some better movies on the Sundance and the IFC (Independent Films Channel) than some that are nominated for awards. That's not to say the films nominated suck ... just always felt there has to be politics on the selection.

In any case ... I get to see the names of the movies I will be watching on cable in the near future. Don't go to the movies and I don't rent discs or pay for On-Demand. However ... movies and sports and some news is all I watch at my desk. I love movies ... just want them as cheap as possible.

That's about the only reason to go to the movies ... I'm more of a drama/suspense type of movie person so I don't need a cinema ... the more serious the movie the better I like it.

I guess it's all a matter of our individual perspective, or perception of things, but for me, that's just it. I can't help but get nauseus (sp?) when I see and hear people from Hollywood speak into a microphone. I despise seeing them parade onto a sidewalk with a fake background that says "Gucci" behind them, posing left and right, with camera's flashing, while showcasing that egotistical smile that says "you love me, you really really love me" inside. All the while as you hear some fony wannabe's from E! saying "awe, she looks so lovely in her Louie Vitton dress, oh, and those Feragamo shoes...did I mention that that excentric necklace she's wearing from Tiffany's has $4 million worth of diamonds in it" GAG. Some people like that, and that's fine. To each their own. For me I find it insufferable.

BTW, for those interested, the full scene is right here. Back from when Jim Carey was actually still funny.

I love watching movies, and honestly never let one's politics affect my view of them on the movie screen, but once that movie is over, I want nothing to do with these people. The same for the vast majority of athletes. I root for the laundry. IMO, these people are nobodies, just like me. The fact that they're on TV is of little consequence to me. I'll never forget when Lawyer Milloy tried to cut a friend of mine waiting for the mens room. My bud was like, "hey, where you going" and he was like "dude, I'm Lawyer Milloy". Not tonight pal. :D The point is, in the end, we had to whiz just as badly as he did. So wait behind us in line he did. ;)

    What he said.

I just can't watch these either. Imagine 4 hours of it? When I run up to the kitchen to get something, the only way I'll stop is if Anne Hathaway, or Emmy Rossum is walking on stage.

My god they pick the worst movies. Half the time no one's even heard of them. I think they do it to reinforce their personal opinion that they know better than everyone else.

Same here Darryls. I Netflix, and on the rate occasion something really interesting come out, I go to the theatre to see it. 90% of the time I wait for it on Netflix. Bluray, big screen HDTV, and a 7.1 channel HT set up make my living a personal theatre at home.

I am proud to say that I haven't watched the Oscars or any other award show in over 10 years. And I've never watched the Espy's....those friggn copy-cats!

Don't watch any talent shows. I typically watch nature shows (my favorites!), live sports, the news for the weather forecast only, and a few shows here and there. I'll admit to enjoying Blue Blood and some of the stuff on HGTV. Saw a couple of episodes of Person of Interest and it was ok.

And I'll rent some movies from On Demand now & then.

This is why I like to say "We're all just another bozo on the bus". I don't think anyone is "nobody", but I get your point (it's a general statement!;)).

But it's true that no one is more important than anyone else.

Which is why I never let anyone go in front of me in the grocery line when someone asks me, "Do you mind if I go before you. I only have "x" number of items". To which I always say, "Sure, you must be really important!"

Just kidding...I just typically tell them "I have to get home, sorry." But if I see a person with 1 or 2 items and they DON'T ask me to go in front of me, I'll sometimes tell them they can. But that's just me....I'm strange like that.

Then again, you get the super-dopes who count your items and tell you that you have 13 items in a 12 item line. To which the proper response is, "And?"

I told you all what the Osacrs are, a bunch of rotten immoral millionaires all slobbering over each other, the age of "good drama's" is all over, today they make nothing but "garbage with their own political views thrown in"

    Slop
