Don't know anything about the group presume they are conservatives. I think the pubs should run on this platform in 2012. We need a congress who will pass this and a President who will sign it into law:

    The One Cent Solution

This would be simple to explain to voters. It would work, no more baseline budgeting.

In view of the credit downgrade I decided to boost this thread.

If this plan were adopted the "AAA" rating would be restored. Especially if the Forbes Flat Tax was adopted with it.

That sounds all well and good in a theoretical world.. but what happens if:
    - there is some type of pandemic in this country.
    - there is a need for a real war and we have to raise huge armies.
    - if we are hit with several Katrina like disasters in this country in a short period of time..

It sounds nice, but in reality would not cover this stuff. BTW Congress is polling at an 82% unfavorablity ratiing right now.. there is no faith in any of them.

It could be an okay plan, as long as it also includes the option of raising a tax bracket by 1 cent if you don't want to cut a program. After all, the name of the program suggests we're only talking about a few cents, so if we're okay with cutting defense by a few cents, we should also be okay with raising taxes on millionaires by a few cents.
