This would be a good a time as any to get some guilt off your chest. Things that you thought about the team and were proven wrong about. Confession is good for the soul and you can get rid of the guilt.

    Here is mine:

    1. I did not want the Patriots to make SB 36 because I didn't think that they had a chance against the Rams. I didn't want the Patriots to be come the Vikings or Bills and be one of those teams that go to the SB 4 ot 5 times but never win. I had this feeling until about three days before the game then the Homer in me kicked in and I said "Maybe, just maybe".

    2. I did not want the Patriots to trade Drew in 2002 because I was afraid that Brady could be just a one year wonder.

So there they are and I feel better confessing my sins.

I too did not want the Pats to go against the Rams. I thought it was going to be a blowout.

I thought Warren was going to be a BUST

I did not want O'Callaghan on the team.

Re: The Official off season Patriots Fans Confessional Thread

    1. I was pissed at BB and thought we were toast after releasing Lawyer Milloy.

    2. I was delighted we got rid of Bledsoe. I never thought he had what it took to win it all.

    3. I viewed Beoli as slow and insouciant during the pre-2006 free agent period. It seemed we got outmaneuvered on the likely targeted players such as Jurevicious, Ted Washington, Deshea Townsend, Eric Moulds, Javon Walker, Ty Law etc, while being slow and uncommunicative while losing David Givens and Deion Branch. In the end, it seems that Beoli did most of the right things, but I had some doubts at the time. The only thing I can still criticise them on was leaving the team with poor receivers, which cost us another Super Bowl. I do believe that Beoli recognized some culpability there too in that they went nuts this offseason as far as signing talent.

Why? That's one guy I was pulling for from the very start.

My only confession (not Pats-related) is that I thought Ricky Williams had cleaned up his act and would be a real force with some team this year.

I thought the Pats were done in '03 after Colvin went down.

Re: The Official off season Patriots Fans Confessional Thread

I was happy when we lost games in 2000 and early in 2001 because I wanted Belichick to realize that Bledsoe had to go or he wouldn't be here long.

So needless to say, Tom Brady had me at hello...but I realized PDQ that he was no Michael Bishop.

When Adam tied it in the Snow Bowl, I knew we were going to NO. And that was great to me in and of itself. When they finished introducing the Rams starting offense, and Pat Summerall said "and now, choosing to be introduced as a team..." I said damn, they're gonna win this thing.

I was pretty upset with Belichick and Milloy in 2003. Rodney got me over it.

I feared they could never top XXXVI. It was a tough act to follow. Winning 2 more back to back came close enough.

I liked Bridget. She represented stability at the position through 2 superbowl runs - at least when Rodney was healthy. Giselle still has something to prove, to me anyway! ;)

1.) I was pissed when they took Seymour instead of David Terrell (I drank the Borges kool aid)

2.) I was excited when they picked up Marion Butts in 1994.

3.) I completely gave up hope in last year's SD playoff game when it was 14-3.

When they hired BB, after the no hcnyj napkin fiasco, thought we were getting a head case for a coach.

    2. I didn't like the Corey Dillion signing

I thought that a #1 pick was too steep a price to pay for BB.

When Drew 1st played for the Pats, I thought he'd become a great one. Fortunately, I was disabused of this notion well before BB arrived as HC. My wife arrived there 1st though.

I thought Daniel Graham would be a bust watching him run the wrong routes and drop passes all over in his 1st training camp.

I thought we were going to lose to the Chaagiz last January.

Re: The Official off season Patriots Fans Confessional Thread

    1) I remember saying, "Wasn't Bill Belichick the coach in Cleveland? Great move Kraft."

    2) I thought Bledsoe deserved his starting job back when he got healthy in 2001. Bill Belichick definitely made the right decision. Imagine, a head coach knowing more about football than me.

    3) I thought the Rams were going to put a hurting on us in SB 36. Yet, to my defense I new immediately when the game started we had a shot because they did not have Marshall Faulk run the ball.

    4) I thought we had a shot, slim perhaps, against the Bears in the SB.

    5) I did not care when the team talked about moving to Connecticut.

    6) I now think Peyton Manning is the greatest NFL player of all time. I actually am shocked that I think that now. Hard to believe but I do.

    7) I never think win the Superbowl first. My first thoughts about a season are "BEAT MIAMI TWICE".

    8) If I were to start a new NFL team, Tom Brady would not be in my top 3 QBs to lead my new franchise.

    9) I think Bill Belichick has done a bad job developing running back and tight end talent.

    10) I sulk when the Patriots lose.

    1. i thought bethel johnson would become a good receiver
    2. i thought tony simmons would become a good receiver
    3. i thought david terrell would resurrect his career with us
    4. i thought we could turn jonathan sullivan into a good player
    5. i thought duane starks was a great free agent pickup for our team
    6. I thought monty beisel could have been a great linebacker for our system
    7. I thought that matt light would be a better guard than tackle
    8. i thought tom brady was a smart backup to drew bledsoe but not a long term replacement
    9. I wanted the Pats to win, but realistically I thought they would get blown out by the Rams in SB 36
    10. I thought Chris Canty would be the next Ty Law
    11. I thought Adrian Klemm could be a starting Tackle
    12. I thought that BB's record here would be similar to his days in Cleveland and that he was not a long term answer here at coach

Re: The Official off season Patriots Fans Confessional Thread

    1) I would have drafted David Terrell instead of Seymour

    2) I thought we were dead in the Snow Bowl after we couldn't bottle up Charlie Garner to set up 2nd and 15 and he ended up getting to 2nd and 2 as they were running out the clock.

    3) I thought BB was crazy for releasing Milloy

    4) I would have drafted Lendale White instead of Maroney (thought he was a system player in college)

Re: The Official off season Patriots Fans Confessional Thread

    1) I felt 10 times better being up 6-3 at half in the 2005 Divisional playoff game vs. Indy than being up 21-6 at half in the 2007 AFC championship game. Brady and Bruschi didn't look like they wanted to play the 2nd half when coming from the locker room. Which brings me to...

    2) I feel the Pats play their worst when leading big.

Confession is good for the soul. But you might want to also consider counseling.

Re: The Official off season Patriots Fans Confessional Thread

I thought they were mad to go for the regulation time win in SB 36. :bricks:

Some I share with posters above:

I wrote off Corey Dillon after a) he got here and b) didn't set the world alight in preseason

Like many others, I didn't give us a hope in hell in SB 36.

I thought that said SB was a fluke.

I was really ambivalent about keeping Brady over Bledsoe.

In my defence, I saw the wisdom in getting rid of Milloy.

    1) I was at superbowl XX and knew we had no chance, even when we were ahead 3-0 (though I had a hell of time that week)

    2. I was among those who believed that NO HC was worth multiple #1 picks.

    3. I was among those who believed you don't lose your starting position to an injury. (though I understood BB's final decision in the end)

    4. Late in the first half of the snow bowl I wanted Drew to start the 2nd half

    5. I turned off the TV in disgust right after the "fumble". Obviously I had never heard of the Tuck rule. I didn't know the game was still on until someone called me to ask if I had ever heard of the tuck rule.

    6. I couldn't believe he just selected at DT who had ONE sack his entire senior year, at #6.

    7. I didn't believe we could beat the Rams until well into the 2nd half.

    8. On the other hand I was SURE we would come back and beat the Packers

OH God There are so many others. I have been a fan of this team a long time. ;)

Re: The Official off season Patriots Fans Confessional Thread

With a 49 TD season, I thought Manning was going to torch our backup CBs in the 2004 postseason. Whoops.

Signing BB in 2000, I thought he was another in a long line of outstanding coordinators who make lousy head coaches and his time in Cleveland didn't help shoot that down.

    I loved the Katzenmoyer pick.

    Regards,
    Chris
