I don't follow hockey super closely so is Sequin a Crosby level player or are we not going to see another crosby/ovechkin type player come out for a while....I was hoping with all these picks we could get a stud to pair with Lucic for the next years....

Neither is a Crosby but they both will be front line players in a few years.

And they''ll probably trade them as soon as they hit their stride. :(

Supposedly the top 3 players in this draft are top notch. Not quite Crosby/Ovechkin level (not many are), but more like say a Patrick Kane, Stamkos type. Top line players, or #1 defenseman. Personally I think Seguin seems a little small. I think he's like 175-180 pounds. He's 6'2, so maybe the weight will come as he matures. I think the Bruins are going to go for Cam Fowler the defensemen if they end up with the 2nd pick. Finding a stud defensemen is next to impossible in this league, and when you do, you tend to have to pay through the nose. If Fowler is as good as some say, then the B's might be hard pressed to pass up on him. The best part about this draft, is that it's very deep as well. The next level of players after the top 3, are highly thought of as well. It's a good year to have a high pick.

Toronto has 10 games left and is on a 3 game win streak.

Edmonton - 53 points is a lock to have the most chances at pick #1.
48.2 percent chance of picking 1st compared to their 51.8 percent chance of picking second.

    Toronto - 64 points

    Tampa Bag - 68 points
    NY Islanders - 68 Points
    Carolina - 68 Points

    Florida - 69 Points

    Columbus - 70 Points.

The NHL has a draft lottery where 1 team wins pick #1 then the rest are slotted by record. So the most you can move down is the 1 slot.

Kessel has something like 30 goals this season...that would have been nice to have this year. Hopefully we get some outstanding players in the draft

Toronto is 7-2-1 in their last 10 games ... they can't even tank it for us.

Seems like this is a down year in the draft....like that year Patrick Stefan, the Sedin twins, and Pavel Brendl went top 4. Neither Hall nor Seguin would've cracked the top 5 the last few years.

Would it be worth trading it back into 2011 meaning that it may not be as high a pick? If what you are saying is the talent isn't extremely strong at the top why select one of them and pay them bigger money when we could possibly trade into 2011 and maybe draft further back but get a solid player for less money? I am not big into amatuer hockey so I don't know who would be available but it's just a thought....

Oh no, I didn't mean to suggest that. It will be more of a crapshoot next year. It always is once you get past the first half dozen picks. Hall and Seguin are talented players, and they'll get even better. They're just not rink prodigies the way Lindros, Lecavalier, Crosby, Tavares, etc were. They'll have to settle for being the best of their age group.

For the record, Stamkos wasn't a prodigy in his draft year, either. It was thought to be an unfortunate year to have the top pick.

I really doubt we go with Sequin if we stay in the #2 slot. I think we take Hall if we get #1 or if Hall is there at #2. We don't really need a center right now. A slight trade back would get us Fowler, Gormley, or Gudbranson.

So that's my guess ... either Hall or a trade back to one of the 3 defenders.

Outside shot of a tradeback to get Nino Niederreiter who could well be the steal of this draft.
He is the kind of player we sorely need ... a high energy open the ice up for other players kind of player.
Marc Savard would lead the league in assists if he had Nino on his line.

I'd be okay with that scenario. I'd be happy with Tarasenko also.

    Tonight's game is huge.

Bruins win tonight and Toronto is 3 points back of the next teams at 74 points with 3 games remaining. A win tonight will almost certainly cement Toronto into the 2nd worst record in the NHL.

Having the 2nd pick is not the biggest factor.
Having more lottery chances at the #1 pick is the prize ... Hall.

    Go Bruins.

Toronto got leveled by the Rangers tonight ... 5-1. :D
That win left them 1 point behind Boston for the 8th playoff spot which I think Boston should tank on ... 12th pick now ... we could move up a few spots if we lose our last 3. ;););)

They have 72 points with 1 game left at Montreal :D

Forida has 74 points with 3 games left. :D

Tampa has 74 points with 3 games left. :D

hey guys, don't forget, it's a lottery draft. As of today, going into the last weekend of the season, the oilers have a 48% chance of landing the top spot and the Bruins have an 19% chance. It IS possible to get the top pick.

Taylor Hall - explosive player, great skater, not very physical

Tyler Seguin - can build a team around him, reminds me of Pavel Datsyuk.

I don't think the B's need another center like Seguin, as has been mentioned above. Hall would fit perfectly on the Bruins top line with Savard and Recchi. The B's need top scoring wingers more than anything. The downside is that Hall is a native of Alberta, so the Oilers fans want him bad.

More than a few experts think Sequin has the highest upside. Hall can help us right away. If we land the top spot I say we swap picks with Edmonton in exchange for their #2 this year ... :D:D:D.

We would than have 3 2nd round picks just like Belichick. ;););)

You guys destroyed Toronto in this trade. We are still reeling and Burkie is slowly losing faith in Kessel

    A GREAT FINAL WEEKEND
... going into the final weekend the Bruins owned the 11th pick in the draft. But ... alas ... :p ....St. Louis and Minnesota win their final games and they have 87 and 86 points ... Toronto has 85 points. ;););)

We now own the 9th pick ... 2 spots earlier but it's top 9 now which is great. We could grab the Swiss kid Sven Bartschi ... a future sniper. Another Tyler ... Tyler Biggs a big power RW. We are also great position with a trade down to grab 17 year old Finnish player Joel Armia and get back a pick lost in the Toronto deal. Kid is a year or two away but that's fine considering the talent we already have on the team.

That I deleted it? Good. I had suffered a brain fart where I recommended drafting somebody who was in last year's draft.

I guess this trade is going to seesaw back and forth for some time... but as a Leafs fan 12 games into the 2011-2012 season, all I got to say is...

    T-H-A-N-K
    Y-O-U
    B-O-S-T-O-N!!!!

Kessel: #1 in NHL points, #1 in NHL goals, #1 in NHL +/-, #4 in NHL assists

I'm sure the trade will be debated for some time, and no winner can be crowned until all the players involved retire, but man, Kessel all of a sudden looks great!

Sure 20pts in 12 games isn't a big sample size... However, in Kessel's last 40 games (dating back to the end of last season), he has 49pts (100 pts when projected over 82 games). Happy to finally see some consistency.

One thing we can all put to bed was that Kaberle for Joe Colborne + a 1st and 2nd rd pick... it was absolute robbery on Brian Burkes part.

    How the trade looks:

Kaberle on the 'Canes "helped" win a cup - don't know if he really helped do anything :S

Joe Colborne - Leads the AHL in points
1st rd pk = Tyler Biggs
2nd rd pk = traded to Colorado for John-Michael Liles (8pts in 12 games - more than Kabs currently has)

I'm happy for Kessel. Never wished the guy ill will when he was traded and knew he was going to be a good player. Even with his fantastic start I don't regret the trade. Sequin and Hamilton will be good in this league if not all stars. Despite the poor start this team has a lot of talent in the minors to stay competitive for many years.

Let's not forget the other two highly rated prospects that the Bruins have as a result of the Kessel trade. I doubt there's a GM that would give up Seguin for Kessel right now straight up -- Seguin has been phenomenal on a team that's been slow to get started. Kessel will get better. So will Seguin, Knight, and Hamilton.

I thought at the time that we gave up too much for Kaberle, but the fact is that the Bruins won the Cup. I don't care if we traded our next two drafts for Kaberle, the trade worked. Colborne is now a minor league player five years after being drafted...if he hasn't made it by now, is he really going to be an impact player in the NHL? He couldn't crack the Bruins logjam at center, but to hear that he couldn't make the Leafs??? I'd argue that that's not a good sign. No doubt that Toronto got great value for Kaberle. But the Bruins also got what they wanted out of the trade.
