The gravy train for Retired top military brass has gotten completely out of hand, talk about ethics violations and feeding from the federal trough.. Gates wants to make it different...

If the military is working the way it is supposed to be working, isn't a mentoring program already built in????...

Gates orders review of military mentor program - Navy News, news from Iraq - Navy Times

The Marine Times did an article on this practice yesterday...

It should be very simple for all public employees, you are retired or you are not retired.

    Retired equals not working.

If you're retired you get your pension or whatever retirement is coming to you.
If you're not retired you don't get your pension or retirement until you do retire.

Double dipping = cheating the system IMO.

Could not agree more, in RI for example if you retire from the State you cannot get involved with a private sector job that influences former job... that is called ethics and failure to do so is a violation..

The standard of an appearance of impropriety is a very good general rule.. in this case it is ridiculous..

Wonder how this might effect a retired SEAL of Special Forces who goes to work for Blackwater????

Stop stealing my or knocking-off my thread titles. They're copywrited!;)

I agree this is wrong from any perspective. I have great love and respect for anyone who serves in our armed forces. I think those men & women should be better taken care of upon their return. But having said that, I'm referring more to those in the trenches than top military brass...becaus we all know those guys will be taken care of.

I mean any job. They can get around those influences things easily enough. If I retire from my job as a S/W Engineer and get my retirement but am working in a completely different field like as a salesman or something, then I'm not retired and I shouldn't get my retirement until I'm . . . wait for it . . . actually retired.

IMO that is a conflict of interest also, but it is different big companies and special interests are paying them, not the same people who used to employ them...
