There was great delight in discussing the "legacy" costs of Auto Workers a couple of years ago, no one ever wanted to discuss the "legacy" costs of our veterans.. now they are starting to talk about it.

These long wars have exposed a lot of servicemen and women to war, and there have been at least 30,000 injured.. that is a lot of medical care.

The right will certainly say how they would much rather pay for this than for "Obama Care", but in reality most of this would not be necessary if we did not invade Iraq based on lies.. suspect that this figure is low, as medical costs always go up. And as usual there will be other related costs from undiagnosed illnesses...

The only folks who ever benefit from this are the "merchants of death", aka the war profiteers.. the military industrial complex... unless you are victims of the thought police.

War what is it good for???...

War veterans' care to cost $1.3 trillion - Washington Times

It's not even close to the cost Medicare and Social Security this guy is on drugs.

Your trying to equate Auto getting bailed out to people wounded in combat is obscene.

Predictable, and as usual an effort to deflect by the Moderator who can't even begin to play by the rules...

There is no comparison, just noting how the right is silent about all these costs, but will jump and down like crazy people about anything else..

Where was all of the rage when the American People were lied to about Iraq??? Most just followed along like good little rumbswap righties...

If there was no Iraq the costs would be significant less..

Is 1.3 trillion the total cost or just increase above what it would already cost?

It's moot. There was an Iraq and men and women were hurt. It is our responsibility to care for them with the same spirit and kinship with which they cared for us.

They paid with their internal organs, their limbs and their sanity. We can surely repay the debt with our cash and governmental insurance benefits.

    bingo!

What would you do? NOT pay for the veteran's medical needs just because you didn't agree with the war they were told to fight?

I guess we shouldn't put Former Wyoming Sen. Simpson in charge.

Moot or not, there is no denial of responsibility, just a comment on why any time we lead men and women in to conflict there are unintended consequences... in this case 1.3 trillion dollars of medical care, which brings the total for the Iraq war above 2 trillion dollars.

War is not good for anything or anybody...

Without war there would be no America. Without war blacks would still be slaves in America. Without war, we'd all be German.

    How do you know that?
I could say the opposite. Without war, America would be a beautiful place. African Americans would be part of our culture. Germany would be our friends.
Education is the basis for world peace. We settled everything through negotiations.
