One of the many debates about the Pats selecting McCourty was that they selected the wrong CB. Many felt the Pats should have selected Kyle Wilson over McCourty. So far it looks the Pats made the right decision. While McCourty has been mostly a solid starting CB (with some rookie mistakes), Kyle Wilson has been getting burnt consistently and looks to have dropped below Drew Coleman on the depth chart.

    From the NY Daily News:

Mark Sanchez on the Jets hype: 'I don't want to take the cheese.'

It's way too early to saying anything definitive on the two players, but McCourty has the edge right now.

On a side note, other than a punt return for a TD, Dez Bryant hasn't been anything special and Aaron Hernandez (the Pats used one of the picks they got for trading down in the first round for him) has been as or more productive than Bryant thus far. Again, it is too early to make any definitive decisions, but the early returns are on the Pats' side no matter how much Felger wants to slam the Pats for trading down for value. In this case so far, trading down has netted boffo results.

Kyle Wilson is a very good CB, I'd classify his woes as a reflection of the undisciplined Rex Ryan approach vs. the Bill Belichick approach.

Well, considering Cromartie other than a half vs. Moss has been horrible, I would somewhat agree with you. Cromartie's knock has been his gambling and in an undisciplined defense, that is exposed more just like Brandon Marshall did on Sunday night.

I'd say we know virtually nothing about either player at this point since they are only 3 games into their careers.

Not that I care much about the debate, as I'm very happy with McCourty, but maybe Wilson's struggles are because he's spent more time covering the slot guy. In a lot of cases, that can be more difficult that covering an outside receiver. We haven't seen much of McCourty in the slot.

Nonetheless, I am very happy with our young CB. He's proving to be every bit as good as advertised. He seems much better than his brother in Tenn.

I think it comes down to the fact that Kyle Wilson has at least 1 or 2 outstanding corners on the field with him (Cromartie and/or Revis) and the QB will target the weak link (Wilson).

McCourty has a JAG on the other side (or the man who is a shell of his potential in Butler) and may not get the ball thrown his way or be "schemed against" as much.
I don't have stats to prove this, but the best way for a corner to not have the chance to suck is to obviously not have the ball thrown in his vicinity.

I'm happy with McCourty, but it's too early to tell, maybe they will just both end up being good players

You know Jason has been starting, and just had a pick-six? They're both pretty talented.

Funny, your fellow Jets fans were here the day after the first round of the draft saying the Jets drafted the best CB in the draft while the Pats drafted a glorified special teamer and during the preseason declaring the debate was over and the Wilson was clearly the better player based on preseason play. You Jets fans only want to debate issues like this when things are going your way.

The debate will continue for years. If Jets fans can declare Wilson the better player hours after the draft or during the preseason, we can debate after three games. I said the debate was far from over, but McCourty has the advantage at this point.

Really, I didn't know that they had inserted him into a starting role. I watched him in preseason and in a few games in sub packages, and he didn't look as good to me as McCourty. I guess I'm wrong. It's good to know he's doing well.

I think the difference between McCourty and Wilson is primetime games. Wilson issues were highlighted because he played on SNF. McCourty has not played very well in my opinion. He's living off that play he made on the first play against the bengals. He has given up two touchdowns in each of the last two games. The primetime crews except for gruden usually highlight and criticize bad play. If McCourty does not play better on monday, he will be know by the whole country.

Wilson played like crap against the Ravens and the first half vs. the Pats. McCourty has made his share of mistakes, but he has also been shutdown at times too. It has nothing to do with SNF. And is Ryan demoting him to nickelback even with Revis out because of SNF? McCourty usually goes up against teams' #1 WR while Wilson goes up against second and third WRs.

Neither CB has been perfect. Far from it, but overall McCourty has done well. Even though McCourty gave up TDs, a few were great coverage and just great passes/catches. A few have been bad plays.
