    Combo that with the National Geogrphic series called Guns, Germs and Steel and you get a good glimpse of why and what cause vertain areas to rise in that video's chart.

    Steel...man, that's an under rated invention! Wasn't that a biggest factor leading to the industrial revolution? Or am I thinking about the steam engine?

    In the documentary he basically said it was the steel of the Swords and weapons that lead to the Europeans in conquering the world. It led up to steel being used in Trains and other applications, but it was the steel sword with it;s speed due to weight vs strength was dominate to other faction and was a major cause.

    Great documentary you can find on netflix.

    Germs which killed the Indian races of the Americas, Steel which was the dominate weapon, and then Guns which preserved it. citing the example of English trains moving goods up and down Africa and moving down natives with machine guns to protect their trade and concentrate wealth in Europe.
