The Greed Is Sickening

AJ, you're being a bit hypocritical. You famously tout capitalism then want us to feel badly about an an NFL player that is "washed up after three years." The guy wasn't forced to play football was he? Isn't he simply trying for the max gain he can manage? He wasn't exploited, he took risks based on his own judgement - sounds capitalistic to me.

And that 'washed up at 25' crap has got to stop. Not a single player in the NFL will play until he's 65 so they all go in knowing they will need another job unless they hit it really big. And boo hoo, after getting a free ride thru college, by your formula a guy squeezes out three years in the NFL and on top of having the time of his life, makes $900,000 by the time he's 25, giving him a massive head start on 95% of people his age. And we're supposed to feel sorry for the guy?

And those small market owners think the present deal stinks? Well, wait until the uncapped years come and they start getting buried year in and year out like the KC Royals and the fans just disappear. Then the TV deals will decline (just like what happened to baseball, hockey, basketball) and then even the big market guys will feel the pinch and everyone will suffer.

Meanwhile, a few hundred players will have to wait two extra years to sign their first FA contract and will miss two years of what is usually their biggest payday, while exposing themselves to two more years' risk of major injury.

These people have their heads up their butts, how else can one explain such ignorance and greed?????????

The lazy owners, with publicly built stadiums, should have kept heir mouths shut until after a deal with the union. What a bunch of stupid bastards.[/QUOTE]

* Whether that's true or not, you can't turn back the clock and change it. When Kraftie bought tha Patriots, they were just about the lowest revenue team. If they still were, I bet the sentiment around here about sharing 'total revenue' would be quite different. Remember, many of those owners who don't own thier own stadiums or had new ones built for them, don't get much of the revenue's generated there. Like parking, concessions, naming rights, etc. One thing that'd help is if every NFL owner had to be a billionaire -:)

Looks like you are the one turning back the clock. The fact is that too many owners blackmail their city/region to have taxpayer money build their new stadiums.

Then they either don't have the talent or the ambition or the incentive to produce other revenue streams.

We have seen post heres showing gross revenues and the Patriots are ranked 2nd highest.

I'd like to see the numbers showing gross revenues less debt service and then see where the Patriots rank.
