That's an interesting angle. I never knew about that commercial spots thing. If that's true... I think it sounds kind of petty. Then again it depends on how MUCH supplemental income these commercial spots offer.

it pisses off more than a few players because it is very petty. There is a petty side to the mangement end of things on the Patriots. perhaps that's true of all teams...but the more I learn the more I see that this team is not all for 1 and 1 for all like they were in 2001. Belichick must be working around that more than he did before...without success it was easy...with success it must be darn near impossible.

One of the major problems was Branch wanted to be paid like a top 10 receiver and he’s not even close to being one. He’s an undersized receiver that cannot get separation, create space, or do any one thing exceptionally well. Getting a 1st round draft pick for Branch was an absolute steal and the right move by the Front Office. His stats are nowhere near a #1 receiver:

Receiving Stats
YEAR TEAM G REC YDS AVG LNG TD FD FUM LOST
2002 NWE 13 43 489 11.4 49 2 22 0 0
2003 NWE 15 57 803 14.1 66 3 40 0 0
2004 NWE 9 35 454 13.0 26 4 27 0 0
2005 NWE 16 78 998 12.8 51 5 51 0 0
Career 53 213 2744 12.9 66 14 140 0 0

Reggie Wayne :
2001 IND 13 27 345 12.8 43 0 19 0 0
2002 IND 16 49 716 14.6 49 4 35 2 1
2003 IND 16 68 838 12.3 57 7 49 0 0
2004 IND 16 77 1210 15.7 71 12 59 0 0
2005 IND 16 83 1055 12.7 66 5 54 1 0
Career 77 304 4164 13.7 71 28 216 3 1

Why would the FO want to spend #1 receiver money on a guy that doesn’t deserve it?

Players need permission to do commercial spots using the teams gear. Dunkin Donuts is one of the sponsors and they now use Seymour.

I don't know all the specifics but i keep hearing there are 4 spots(commercials?) and that Brach wanted 1 of them and was rebuffed and it severly pissed him off.

Hood is an official Patriots sponsor and on the day he was traded, they were still airing radio spots of a contest where the winner would, "Win a visit by New England Patriots player Deion Branch". It cracked me up hearing that ad right after the sports announcer talked about the trade. BTW, this spot has since been changed to, "Win a visit by a New England Patriots player".

Clearly Branch was the "Hood Patriot".

Maybe he likes Dunkin' Donuts better than Hood? :D
