Truly the event that paved the road for the US in my opinion. I watched the silent film "The Birth of A Nation"(1915) last night for the first time in it's entirety(only clips prior). The blatant racism in it was worse than I thought but it was enlightening. People are so easily influenced by propaganda. What horrible carnage Americans suffered at each others hands.

When you are in the south, they sometime refer to this event.. as the "war of Yankee agression"...

OTOH the confederate flag will never die, it flies over the SC capitol.. also see it occasionally in the North East.. wonder how many know what it symbolizes...

In NOLA there is Lee Circle near the Superdome, and in the middle is a statue Lee facing north..

Throughout LA there are Lee and Jefferson streets in just about ever city.. do not recall ever seeing a Lincoln Ave.. but there is Rosa Parks transportation center in Lafayette..

I find it amazing what America has done to help other minority's especially the "liberal faction" while completely ignoring the American Indian, why do we never see American Indians in TV commercials.

Has anybody ever seen a "Chinese Firefighter"---------

Has anybody ever seen a "Mongolian Bus Driver"

Why are certain minority's favored over others?

That's a bit dramatic but I get your point. If you have some time though read up on the battles and you'll be moved. Many battles resulted multiple thousand of lives on each side. Gettysburg had anywhere 45,000 to 50,000 deaths. The bullets used could rip people apart and cannon fire shrapnel could mow down dozens at a time. Many lay dieing for days, many were boys.

Maybe the American Indians are ignored because the Government pushed them to reservations in the 1860's/1870's and they now make up less than 1% of the population? I believe Mongolians are around .0002% of the population.

Hate to break it to you but I've seen many Asian police and firefighters.

I find the average American's ignorance of the Civil War rather sad. We're repeating a lot of the same mistakes that the US made in the 1840s and 1850s. Just saying "slavery caused the Civil War" is good enough for the US Citizenship exam on the Simpsons, but it's ****ty history.

Yeah, I'm not getting the Confederacy promotion thing either. The linked article is meh, but at least they called the governor on a simplistic presentation of the history. It's too bad the article went on to do the same thing.

At least you don't live in Maryland. They have no idea if they are a Northern or Southern State. I used to go down to Baltimore 7 or 8 times a year and always laughed after talking to people down there.

Some of them are still fighting the war (confederate flags, etc) while others think all is good as they want to be part of the Northeast (Philly, NYC, Boston).
