It's time for our annual frenzy of dashed dreams and public humiliation. Enter the PatsFans draft contest!

The rules are simple: The Patriots hold 12 picks in this year's draft. Name 12 players, trying to hit as many of the Pats' picks as possible. You don't have to say what round you think they'll be drafted. You can use any strategy you like -- if you're convinced the Pats will finally draft a punter this year, feel free to list the top half dozen punters.

Hitting 1 pick right is pretty good; 2 is excellent; 3 has never been done. Maybe you'll be the first?

Best of luck, everybody. (We'll need it.)

Still officially 0-for 6 years with this, so if you like any of these picks, pretty much guaranteed they will not be Patriots:

Ricky Sapp- OLB Clemson (best OLB prospect in the draft)
Taylor Mays- OLB USC (yes, I think that BB will make him an OLB)
Corey Wooten- DE Northwestern (perfect size for DE in Pats system)
Jared Veldheer- T Hillsdale (clone of SeaBass)
Dekoda Watson- OLB Florida State (will be at worst a ST demon)
Arthur Jones- DE Syracuse (steal in the 4th round)
LaGarrette Blount- RB Oregon (bruising back, with huge chip on shoulder)
Michael Hoomanawanui-TE Illinois (The Pats have done well drafting people with unpronounceable names)
Mike Williams- WR Syracuse (head case, but worth a shot with one of the late picks)
Seyi Ajirotutu- WR Fresno State (6’4” 4.6 worth a shot )
Brent Bowden- P Virginia Tech (best directional punter in NCAA)
    Jameson Konz-FB Kent State (6’4” 234 with 4.43 speed, FB/TE)

I don't mean for this to be in any way disrespectful of the spirit of the contest. This obviously isn't what I think will or (God knows) should happen, but it is my best effort at finding a system to predict the highest number of the Patriots' picks. I took the first seven TEs from the list of those the Patriots have had contact with, and then added five players at positions of need that I like that I figure have a chance to go in the 2nd round. My logic is 1) We will draft at least two TEs and possibly more. 2) Since we have 3 2nd round picks it makes sense to try and cluster predictions there rather than try to nail our lone first rounder.

It is totally within the rules of the contest, but speaking from experience the cool part of this is going back to see what you were thinking months and years later. Things like predicting a guy the Pats will draft relatively early but ends up going undrafted and playing in Canada (not saying that has ever happened to me. it was a friend of mine.)

So while your current approach is more likely to get you the mythical 3 correct picks, I think you will enjoy trying to hit as many as possible.

Ah, the "maximize future humility" approach, nice. :)

I think a lot of us take a middle path, listing maybe 3 top candidates at a couple of key positions, then filling in with specific players we have a good feeling about at other positions.

Of course, so far NO approach has worked, so the TE extravaganza is as good an idea as any. Though last year that approach would have led you to list seven OLBs...
