Usually do not put much stock into this guessing game, but find the comments after the Pats interesting.. it is all good folks.

Florio has done a pretty good job of marketing himself and his product..

Actually they are reminding me of the 2004 Patriots.

    2001 for me.

2004 was a 14-2 SB winning team adding corey dillion with a top 3 defence .i have not clue hos this team at week 1 reminded you of that team.

IMO 2001 for the D but 2004 for the O.
I think we would all agree this team both on O and D is in no way an off-spring of 2007.

This passing game is better than the 2004 Pats. Brady is on another level this year than he was in 2004, and we don't have a Corey Dillon-led power running game. If the defense can do an impression of the 2004 defense in the playoffs, then I'll be happy. :D

In my eyes, this team is unlike any other we've had. The defense may be comparable to some of the earlier versions as they had their porous moments early on but are rounding into shape now... 2005 comes to mind, alot of people forget just how good they performed down the stretch and in the playoffs, but it was ruined by all the turnovers in Denver and a BS pass interference on Asante. They really should've held Denver to single digits like they did Jax in the wild card game and who knows what they would have done rest of the way.

But the offense is unlike any other. The only other offense you can say was on this level was 2007... and that was a complete different type of offense. This version may not be as explosive (or it MAY be if it continues playing the way it is), but it is definitely more unpredictable, more versatile, deeper at RB/TE, and that could make it tougher to shut down in January. Our offense was also great in 2004 but I don't remember it being this potent.

You're already impressed. If they do that, you'll be ecstatic.

When they dumped Moss, this was exactly the direction I wanted them to go in.

More unpredictable, more short passing, instead of the "stare down randy moss and throw into double coverage 40 yards downfield and hope moss can pull a rabbit out of his hat." 2 TEs, lots of screens, TEs in the flat, play action. They haven't done a lot of screens but everything else is great. Plays into the strengths of the team and uses the lack of information the defense has as an advantage. When the defense knows it's Maroney off tackle, it's kind of hard to make that a winner. From what other teams said, they could tell when Moss was going to go deep just by his body language when he lined up.

It's still a little predictable, for example when they have a TE lined up in the backfield it's always a run, usually right at where Crumpler is going.

Don't agree on 2005. Their schedule at the end of the year was weak. It made them look better than they actually were.

I'm seeing this team as an exact replica as the 1994 49ers. HoF QB playing at the highest level. Defense doing well. Scoring a billion points after Thanksgiving at will.

I'm sure it was Simms who said on commentary that the 2007 Pats offense was copied by teams (like say the Saints) but defenses had adapted with all the sub-packages. He went on to say now watch everyone copy the 2010 version

I wonder how many TE's go high in the draft next year (shame weve got the best two!)

I was actually thinking the other day how much I prefer watching this team than the 2007 team!

2007 was 3 plays and score; now they take their time and look far better :)

    I caught that too.

People can copy the 2007 or 2010 offense as much as they want.

They cannot clone guys like Brees, Brady, even Manning in other years. Being patient and taking what the defense gives, and knowing where to go with the ball is critical in this type of offense.

Re: The 2010 Pats are looking like more and more like the lovechild of the 2007 Pats.

It's a very lazy analogy, the comparison to 2007 Pats and 1999 Rams.

I would agree that the mid 80s Niners, that focused on crisp shorter passes and compiling yards after the catch, is a more appropriate comparision. They even had versatile and great tight end play. Their running game with Craig, though, as both a tough inside runner and receiver in one package is something we don't do, but the combination of BJGE and Woodhead does put similar stresses on the opposing D. It's also similar to the good early 80s Bengals Kenny Anderson teams who had great tight end play, very high percentage offenses, and a level of efficiency in the QB hard to achieve (70% or so pass completion percenatge in Anderson's best years). They lacked the big play ability of the Niners and us, though.

The actual schemes we run are not as impressive as just the sheer efficiency with respect to not making turnovers, avoiding negative plays, avoiding key penalties, and capitalizing often when the opponent does each of these. I don't recall any team so good at playing mistake-free offense.

I'm mostly excited to see what the Pats can do in 2011 or 2012 when these rookies have some more experience under their belts!

Agree. The defense isn't nearly as good as the 2004 team. The offense is much better.

They're pretty close to 2007. Absolutely elite offense, defense thats good enough.

People want to make comparisons but to me this year's Patriots team is unlike any version I have ever seen. I don't remember this many youngsters playing prominent roles since the '96 team. The 2007 team scored the most points in a season in NFL history, something this year's team won't approach. But the 2007 team doesn't compare to the 2010 team's balance on offense... deep at RB, WR, AND TE. The defense lacks the veteran leadership of many of its predecessors, but it's a defense that is quickly growing up before our very eyes.

This is a truly unique, special team, one that is incomparable IMO.
