Interesting. Ross Perot. I thought he was dead for some reason.

I was only in my teens at the time and I don't remember exactly how it was perceived, but I seem to think that Perot was somewhat mocked for his unorthodox approach to campaigning. I liked the idea behind his programs; educating the voter on his positions and on matters of importance as he saw them. I remember thinking that if I ever ran for political office one day, I'd want to reason with voters as well.

I resent that "campaigning" these days is about spending more and lying better than your opponent in a series of negative attack and counterattack ads. Pols must really think that Americans are too stupid to talk to in an adult manner...or candidates are giving us what we deserve.

Perot is one of the most intelligent presidential candidates the US has had in a very long time.

it ain't easy getting 20% of the vote as a 3rd party

But 0 electoral votes are the indicator of how hard it is to run against established party politics....

Doesn't that typify the election? Romney gets the endorsement of a guy who created thousands of high paying American jobs using technology and predicted the loss of American manufacturing due to legislation.
Obama gets the endorsement of a little girl who...........I can't figure out what she does other than plan on having major dental problems based on her sugar consumption..

I agree with your theme Nik.

On your latter point. I don't think Pols think the public are stupid. I think they view it as; no matter if people say don't do attack ads....there is simply no better tool for them because at the end of the day, people react to them. On second thought, maybe they do think we are dumb.

See the attack/scare adds about the Income Tax repeal question here in MA. All the ads were like "if we get rid of income tax, construction jobs will stop and we wont have State Police".
