Could someone please reconcile the following for me?

"The woman who checked me reached her hands inside my underwear and felt her way around. It was basically worse than going to the gynecologist. It was embarrassing. It was demeaning. It was inappropriate." - ABCNews employee

Actually, a lot of liberals are with you on this one Wolfie; I've been arguing this issue in a liberal forum, and I'm very much in the minority.

I think the prudishness of our society is ridiculous. If experts have decent evidence that this will make things more difficult for terrorists, then I don't care if they touch the outside of pants and get a little close. What happened to the ABC news employee was apparently a case of a rogue or incompetent employee. Personally, I'd prefer the electronic body scan, but I guess some people would rather be touched.

For me, the biggest issue is how do we respect the dignity of the disabled with this kind of intrusive search? I'm not sure there's a way.

I find it interesting that time after time read where the right is bellowing and clamoring how Obama is woefully not doing anything to protect this nation, and now this.. and they still complain.

There has to be a better way, but OTOH cannot have it both ways..

I'll make an official announcement right here...if any TSA person puts their hands INSIDE my underwear, I guarantee you I'll punch them in the mouth. If it's a woman, she'll just get a hot slap in the face.

All joking aside...I am dead serious with the above statement. No one is going to put their hands INSIDE my underwear unless I want them to.

Does anyone know if it's legal for them to do that?

By the same token, if this policy was instituted under a Republican administration, we would have the Left screaming that it was the start of a police state and the brownshirts had arrived.
If someone can tell me another way to detect these explosive devices without being as intrusive, I'm all ears.....Until then I'll let you know how it goes in three weeks when I fly to St. Louis for the Rams-Chiefs game with my son .

Yeah, its tough to say what the right thing is. The only thing I'm 1000% sure of is that I don't want to go back to the security level that permitted Sept 11.

This is pretty outrageous if you ask me. I'm seeing pictures of little kids shirtless, and reading stories about women being groped. WTF brought all this on anyway?

And I love how the left spent the period from 2001 to 2009 telling us all how George Bush was violating the Constitutional rights of each and every single one of us and making like we were living in a police state, but then they give Obama a free pass even though things have actually gotten worse.

    +1 +1 +1. Well said.
Rams-Chiefs? Yuck. I'm sure being molested by the TSA will be the best part of that trip. :D

I actually got lucky. My family made plans to go to Seattle-Tampa Bay day after Christmas so a whole bunch of us are going with all the kids. When we bought the tickets before the season began it looked like a real clunker. Now it looks like some big time playoff implications will be on the line! :rocker:

Do not disagree, believe that this is very intrusive and their has to be another way.. but every day read where the mediots from the right are clamoring about how Obama is not doing enough to protect us from terrorists and how vulnerable he has left us.

? The left isn't giving Obama a free pass on this or on any number of other issues where he hasn't delivered on what he promised or what they wanted. The right can bellow all they want about Obama being a "socialist" and "divisive," but on many issues he has not been nearly far enough to the left to satisfy his supporters.

You don't like the Pat downs, don't fly......simple as that. Its not a right its a privilege.

200 years ago, if you would of said humans would be flying in the air most ppl would of thought you where crazy......Have a little respect for it and remember its for your saftey, if we didn't have pat downs and someone blew up a plane everyone would complain that we need pat downs.......

You can't have your cake and eat it too........

So what's with the random crackhead assertion in the pretentious thread title?

It's interesting that racial profiling, random pat downs and junk fondling for safety was ok during the Bush years. But suddenly, the "crackhead" is infringing on our rights. Way to be consistent.

Just for the record, this is reprehensible, no matter who is in office.

The terrorist appear to have won. Look at what we're doing, and look how rapidly our empire is dying.

You are entirely correct. There's nothing unconstitutional here. No one is being forced to submit to either a pat down or a body scan. There is nothing stopping anyone from refusing both....it means they won't get on a plane, sure, but being allowed to fly isn't constitutional privledge, either.

Besides, I'm unsure what all the fuss is anyhow. Less than 2% of all passengers are asked to submit to the extra security precautions - the odds of it happening to you are very small.

Last year when the "Underpants bomber" was arrested people were inscensed that there was no way to scan for bombs hidden in underwear. They couldn't believe we didn't have a system in place to catch even the most intimately hidden weapons or bombs. Well, sometimes you get what you wish for.......which, in most cases, only provides certain people with something else to complain about.

On top of this how does this scanner detect explosives? They have sniffer machines for that. I thought there might be something a little fishy with this whole thing, it turns out a past head of Home Land security is on the board or holds stock in the company that makes these scanners.

Did I miss a recent terrorist attack or something? seriously, 9-11 was a conspiracy of incompetence. Once we started paying attention that was about as much as was needed. These scanners and heightened searches are all show and have nothing to do with stopping terrorism.

Also, stripping down 10 year olds should put you in jail not a government job.

Interestingly enough...here are some American poll results from 10 months ago as well as some Patfan's regular contributor's opinions on scans and searches.

A new USA TODAY/Gallup poll says that 78 percent of Americans approve of the new full body scan.
It’s Official: A Majority Of Americans Would Give Up Liberty In Order To Be Safe From Terrorism
