So if they stop lending us money to over-fund our own military, that means they'll have more funds to spend on ... :bricks:

But seriously, is this the beginning of detente? Are they saying: hey, an arms race will destroy us both? Are they saying that out of one side of their mouth while smiling knowingly and suggesting "you go first"?

China is like not even our enemy - they are to the extent that they will help the opposite side that we will help. But a war between us, China, Russia is not going to happen as there is to much cooperation financially in the world today. China cannot even launch wars like we do.

How much does it matter that those comments were made 6 years ago? Dunno.

If any country has a legitimate claim to territory in dispute, then China has legitimate claim to Taiwan. Would the US do the same for Guam or Puerto Rico? Imagine if Guam decided they wanted full independence and was going to evict all US forces from the Island. We said "No way, Guam", but the Chinese decided to protect Guam and intervene. I know the Guam comparison is weak on the level of analogy to the China/Taiwan issue. The CHinese claim on Taiwan is much stronger historically and culturally.

I bet Japan hates this whole thing.

There is an interesting split among the Republican party. You have these traditional conservatives who are for non-intervention, acknowledge blowback from our foreign policy, and are for scaling back military and reducing government spending.

On the other hand, you have the MI-complex people all for doing the bidding of energy and corporations and using the military and violence to forcefully control the world.

There are plenty of Dems on the payroll of the MIC as well. Lets not forget what the current occupant of the WH is engaged in...still. The only thing we still make well is weapons. That means jobs. That means votes. There are no party differences when it comes to that.
