Jets send #4 and #29 to the Saints? Doesnt quite add up on the saints side on the value chart, but Id do it If I was them and they werent planning on taking bush

Maybe add a mid-to-late rounder, but the Saints really don't need Bush anyway. D'Brick is gonna fall to #4 so basically you're getting the guy that you liked (along with Williams) for less money and an extra 1st rounder to boot.

Link to a value chart??

I'd be shocked if the Saints passed on Bush or traded the pick away, unless someone like the Jets gave them a Ricky Williams-full draft type of deal.

The Saints struggled last year and lost fans and ticket sales. Imagine what adding Reggie Bush to Drew Brees would do for exciting the fan base.

Also, name a more talented player available AFTER the 1st pick in the draft in recent memory. How do you pass that up?

6 yrs/$54 mil. per ESPNews.

Espn news is reporting that the deal is 6 years 54 million.
He signed a deal making 9 mil a year without playing a game in the NFL, rookie contracts are getting ridiculous.

Exactly. The Saints have Deuce McAllister

We'll see if they have any faith in his health going forward. He is coming off a torn ACL.

In terms of marketing and PR, staying still and picking Bush would be the smart move, but as we all know, in the modern sports world, basing your personnel decisions squarely on what the majority of fans think usually doesn’t get the positive results that you were looking for. Casserly and the Texans, who aren't filling Reliant anymore as you know, commendably defied public opinion and made the best decision for their team.

Good point.

Man, Casserly has some balls going against the tidal wave of public opinion. Someone named Belichick did the same thing a few years ago by picking a defensive lineman over the next superstar WR.

Yes, and while it won't sell tickets, this pick will go further towards building a SB team in Houston than Bush would have. Smart choice.

Not just the knee but McAllister will turn 28 late in the 2006 season. It usually isn't until the 2nd year after a torn ACL that players get back to 100% before the injury, E. James being a perfect example. Do you pass on Bush with Deuce turning 30 the year he's completely back?

It's not like he was dominating the NFL before the injury, he had just 3.6 ypc. He finished 2004 with just 1074 yards, certainly not terrible by any means but IMO not something that makes you pass on Bush.

...in related news, former Hoston GM Charlie Casserly was found lynched outside Texans offices @ Reliant Stadium...

Just a joke fellas..

this is way smart

with williams and a RB with their high second round pick they will be better off than with Bush and the best DE available when they go in the second round

Besides, isn't doesn't Kubiak have experience in the Bronco RB machine.?

The Texans already have a solid, above average RB so they might put off picking a RB for oh maybe.......an OL.

Great move by the Texans. Only thing they could have done better is trading down and still nabbing Williams or Ferguson. If the Saints are smart, they'll try and get a bounty of picks for some team in the top 7 or so wanting to move up. I'd place a call to the Raiders in a heartbeat and see if they're willing to give up most of their draft and a 1st next year for Bush. Davis can't resist speed.

They have dominick Davis, why are they so worried about getting another RB?

Because he is slightly above mediocre. He is the kind of guy good teams have no trouble stopping when they focus on it. When he isn't the focus of the defense or in games when the season is done and teams aren't focused he puts up big numbers.

In 2004 he rushed for 1188 yards. It sounds impressive. But if you look closer, he got 484 of those in the last 4 games when they were out of it and playing out the string. That leaves 700 in the first 12 games, less than 60 a game. Same thing in 2005 when almost 300 of his 970 yeard came in his last 2 games when the Texans had long established themselves as the worst team in the league.

Davis is a serviceable starter but is one of those guys whose numbers look better than he really is and that is why his own team which sees him uo close every week knows it needs to upgrade.

KC picked Larry Johnson in a similar circumstance. Priest Holmes just turned 30 and got injured late in the season, so the Chiefs selected Johnson a few months later. You always need to get younger, however the difference between the Johnson-Holmes situation with the Saints' is that Johnson was chosen in the 20's, while the Saints are in the top 5. D'Brick is still gonna be there, they were high on him before and with the Jets offering a good deal it may be in their best interest to trade down two spots.

Misleading. Yeah in 2004 he had those yards in the last four games, but just because the Texans were playing out the string, doesn't mean the opposing teams' defenses were. They played Indy and Jacksonville those last 4 games, both trying to either make the playoffs or needed to improve their seed. The opponents weren't going to CHOOSE not to shut down Davis simply because Houston was out of the playoffs. If it was as easy to do as you say, they would have done it because THEY themselves needed the game. And he had 128 yards vs. Indy and 158 vs. Jacksonville. And he didn't PLAY the last two weeks of 2005, he was hurt.

He's a good back. You can skew stats any way you want them. That being said, I'd have taken Bush if I were Houston. They could have used both of them, at least for the first year.
