Reiss points out that teams coming off Thursday games are 10-4 the following week playing with 10 days rest, as the Pats opponent will do again this week in Oakland. He concludes there is an advantage that has led to the record.

But there may be more to it than that. 10 of the 14 teams that have played Thursday games have winnning records overall, including division leaders NYJ/NE, Tennessee, Denver, NYG, Pittsburgh and Arizona. It would seem logical winning teams would win more often the following week simply because they are good, not necessarily because they had 10 days rest. Since 10 of the 14 teams were "good" who played on Thursdays this year, I am not sure the 10-4 record is all that surprising.
This week will be put to the test as its the first time two losing teams are coming off a Thursday game....Oakland and San Diego.
