Tebucky as LBer?

Hmmm.. didn't see this posted before but here is a nice breakdown of
saftey postion by Casale.

From this report it looks like Saftey position could be solid this year.

As for TBucky at LB position.... that is interesting. At Goaline situations his
quickness, height and physical ability might be an advantage over a
slower LB.

If Harrison can't go on opening day then Casale might be right in pegging
TBuck to start next to Wilson.

Didn't BB use something he called "The Big Nickel" in 2002, where he used three big safeties (Milloy, Jones and Victor Green ), one of which played LB?

We might get away with that the first two games, afterward it's going to be an open invitation for teams to go deep down the middle on us. I feel uneasy about our secondary; I'd feel better with Law onboard.

it doesnt take much to help our secondary..just leadership and being physical in secondary..Hawkins was a vet..he was a leader..got people straightened up..i douubt Hawkins can keep us the way we were at the end if he starts. id rather see Jones or Sanders starting

I don't know about Hawkins over TBuck. TBuck is certainly the more physical.
BB will play the best guy ... got all of TC/preseaon to determine that.
Hawkins may have the edge when it comes to brains and insticnts and cover
ability but TBuck may have learned a lot since he was here last. I would like
TBucks physical presence in the secondary until Harrison gets back.
Maybe it will be a lot of situational stuff and both will get a lot of playing time.

No doubt at all that what you say is correct. He did a super job and played way better than any one ever imagined. Here is an issue though. What is the difference between Hawk and Rodney? When the Hawk is flying over the middle, what WR is afraid to make a cut inside? Rodney bring that fear and pain to every WR he meets in the middle of the field. Rodney's brutality spreads to Geno, and we have a nasty middle where no WR wants to catch the ball. The thought is that if Rodney can go on day 1, then TBuck will help fill the oain factor in the middle. TBuck is not Rodney and never will be, but the guy can realy lay the smack down. Let's just pray that Rodney is back so we can use Hawk & TBuck as reserves with a regular LB crew.

If Tebucky could tackle maybe, but I can't get that image of Steve McNair pushing him off in 2002 on MNF for a touchdown.

I go for stability. Artrell might have been our MVP last year.

Not the best player, but he took our secondary from a horror show to respectability.

Not downplaying Hobbs but the biggest loss last year was the field general Rodney.

BB will find plenty of room for the athleticism of TBuck and Sanders.

I just want to see them all on the same page.

It may getting lost here that Tebucky - while sometimes a boneheaded tackler - did not leave the Patriots because he flat-out stunk. He left because he wanted a bigger contract than he deserved. I'm glad he's back.

Tebucky wasn't good enough to be a full-time safety when he left. He was, and is, a top special teamer. I am also happy he's back. In my mind he's a keeper before Mitchell and Guss Scott. The four I expect to get reps at safety are Harrison,Wilson,Hawkins, and Sanders.

I don't think we need any more to play safety, but we do need special teamers, so I expect two of Jones, Mitchell, Scott and Andrews to make the squad, along with four corners (who don't need to be special teams specialists).

This will be decided in camp and preseason. I think T-Buck has the best shot at being a starter because he is the biggest, fastest and hardest hitting. But if he looks lost out there, Bioli will go with somebody more reliable.

I think it's his job to lose.

My worst memory of T-Buck was in the 2002 Chargers fiasco, when LT set some kind of record against our defense. T-Buck trampled on people in our secondary, from behind, in order to be in on the play. He basically knocked his fellow defenders on the ground with a big block in the back, and then tripped over them and took himself out. LT got a touchdown on that play, I think, because OTIS was held from behind by Dwight or someone, right in front of the ref, who didn't call it. Meanwhile, T-Buck wiped out some of our secondary himself.

That was the weekend before Belichick showed up unexpectedly at the Safety meeting to have a little chat with the boys.

I certainly understand these feelings but I take comfort in that fact that if Rodney can not go early, the worst case scenario at safety is Hawkins. Hawkins biggest contribution last year was that his cover skills decreased the offenses' ability to kill our D with the long pass that plagued them eralier in the season.

I don't get as into comparing player vs player. What I know is that the Dbacks were a much better UNIT after Hawkins was inserted, and were a very good unit by the ned of the year. Things were a mess after Rodney was hurt until Hawkins stepped in, that counts for a lot with me. I think T Jones can contribute, I just really like how the D played when Hawkins was there.

Artrell was valuable to the D last year but i would give it to Vrabel. The guy played both Inside and outside linebacker and did both well. I remember reading an article about how Bruschi was so impressed with how well Mike played both positions. He's a pretty good goal line tight end too (i know its not really relevant)
