we'll see about those possibles, but they probably should be getting a wr and center into the pipeline in the draft, I'd think.
    maybe a safety and corner.

there are always a lot of spots to improve, and it comes down to who they can get in fa at a reasonable price, and what falls to them in the draft that they like.

I know popular sentiment has us picking up lloyd, and obviously there are issues at the edges if we're counting out anderson and carter, although I don't know that those guys are gone.

should be a pretty interesting offseason -- I'm excited about it.
gonna be a long 3 months 'til the draft, but only about a month 'til fa.

    No way in hell.

We have a young team and young players tend to be more resilient and bounce back quicker.

Plus the AFC is falling hard.

Colts will be a joke again. Steelers are fading. Chargers are consistent underachievers. Broncos aren't a real threat. Jets have gotten worse and don't believe their own hype anymore.

Only teams to look out for is the Ravens and Texans.

Anybody think we make a move for Reggie Wayne?

He's a Free Agent. Peyton will surely be gone. Wayne doesn't want to go through the whole rebuilding phase at this point in his career. Will want to play for a contender.

    Disable Jersey

Re-sign Welker, Koppen, Connolly and Carter

    Sign Brandon Lloyd

Add a WR who can fill Branch's role, or be another middle-deep threat

    Add 2 DE/OLBs

    Add S

    Add CB

Interesting...Wayne has a couple of season's left in those legs..like i posted in the other threads, I like Lloyd, because of his familiarity with McD

    Greetings,
I really like James Ihedigbo, just not as a starter though. I think he has a lot to contribute as a special teamer and when you have nobody else to play safety.

I think Lloyd can be a very solid choice, if his price is reasonable. He would give a 4 across of Lloyd/Welker/Hernandez/Gronk, and would allow the team to look for a 5th WR who could be either a Branch-style replacement or another middle-deep receiver.

Hello ive been a long time visitor of this site and i finally decided to make an account and share my sadness with the rest of patsnation :(. However i would like to share my opinion

We definately need to get someone who can stretch the field. I don't think we have a realsitic chance of trading up to get blackmon but kendall wright and alshon jefferey may be that guy.

As for the running game we need a back thats a threat, whats every1s thoughts on trading up for trent richardson, a lot of mocks have him going late teens but who knows what suprises await on draft day. Ridley has shown some flashes but also shows he has ball security issues. Vareen, who knows whats in store with that kid.

OFF TOPIC: We were the home team today and if i recall the home team decides what jerseys they want to wear. I really wish the patriots choose their white jerseys, the last time we beat the giants we were wearing white as it was an away game. We are 0-3 against the giants with our blue jerseys (07 superbowl loss, 2011 regular season, and now this superbowl) !!!!

I was thinking this last month when McD got freed up from the Rams...Lloyd follwed him to the Rams because he WANTED to be in Josh's system...it's not hard to believe the Pats may hard ball Welker and offer Lloyd a substantial contract...the slot WR is important but with Hernandez and Gronk operating around the middle I see a defense stretching veteran WR as a practical no brainer

I think Lloyd coming here would be awesome, he would be a huge addition. Plus, him and McDaniels are pretty much joined at the hip I am sure he wants to stay with him.

Was ANYONE excited about Ocho coming here? I know I was happy because I like the guy, but I didn't think he would fit in right here.

Lloyd is NOT coming to New England.

Jesus Christ! What's this stupid obsession? LOL.... We weren't even willing to cough up a 5th rounder for Lloyd this year. We could've easily have had him if we wanted to, but Belichick passed on him.

Outside of Moss and Welker hits, BB does not know how to develop a WR or judge the talent/fit..... There's plenty of data there now since last time we actually developed a WR was back in 2002 or so with Givens, Branch. Name me 1 other WR he was able to scout well or develop in this system ?

Does the name Doug Gabriel ring a bell ? How's that for starters....

The New England Patriots can have both wide receivers. The New England Patriots don't have to re-sign the following players:

    Dan Koppen
    Kevin Faulk
    Shaun Ellis
Albert Haynesworth (a complete waste of $1.5 million cap space)
    Andre Carter
    Mark Anderson

With regard to salary cap savings, the New England Patriots can cut the following players:

    Mike Wright
    Chad Ochostinko

Welker will be 32 at the start of the season. And with his "mileage" of so many catches and hits, there's no way we Franchise him. Wouldnot surprise me if BB chooses to let him walk

Would be stupid to do since effectively between Welker, Branch, AH, Gronk, you have 4 slot receiver players.

that may be true, but they didn't have mcdaniels lobbying for him, either.
maybe bob/bill didn't have a particular interest and they were moving on with ocho, who didn't pan out all that well.
now they have more of a need, a lobbyist, and they don't have to give up any picks.

I'm not predicting anything, but I wouldn't call it crazy.

Ok, so we got two first round picks. We need to trade up, so we can get top 10 talent.

Welker stays as the number one slot receiver (from the wide receiver ranks) and Branch goes. Brandon Lloyd will become New England Patriots offense number one wide receiver in 2012.

    I'd disagree with that.

I don't watch college ball, and I have no idea who the pats like, etc, but you can strip down your draft pretty quick to get into the top 10 and it's no guarantee you'll get a hit.
we have plenty of spots that could use some young talent, and I'd rather spread the wealth, letting a few guys hit and a few bust, rather than put all the eggs inone basket which leaves holes even if you get lucky and hit.

the reason we're even in this position of having the picks to trade up and down is because of his trading downinto the future, so i'd continue with that approach, trading at least one into next year, and taking who's there at your spot, or dropping back a bit if you think you can get him later.

you'd really have to pony up a lot to move top 10, and we can always sign in fa.

like I said, I don't follow college ball, but who are the top 10 talents/positions you'd sell the farm for?

here's what atlanta gave for julio jones:

In exchange for getting the sixth pick, Atlanta gave the Browns five -- five! -- draft picks: their 1st- (27th overall), second- (59th) and fourth-round (124th) picks this year and their first- and fourth-round picks in 2012.

    I just don't like that.

Pierre Garcon and Harry Douglas AND we draft a "big" receiver.

Pierre Garcon is a quality deep threat at a Patriot price.

Lloyd and Wayne .......... give me the younger players. Lloyd's familiarity with the system would be acceptable instead of Douglas but he'll cost bucks.

Part ways with Branch and Ocho.

I wonder how much lloyd would really hold out for.
he's already said he wants to play for mcd, and if he signs some reasonable 2 year deal he might be thinking he could put up the kind of numbers that would set him up for an even bigger score.

moss tore up money to come here and signed a cheap deal, and I think they'd pay more than that original moss contract.

if he wants to play with mcd and brady on a contender I doubt he tries to break the bank, but I guess it depends if someone throws crazy money at him.

The team needs to develop a consistent rushing attack with Ridley and Vereen in the off-season to take pressure of Brady and the passing offense. Brady seems to be going through an early-career-John-Elway phase, i.e. not playing his best in the most important games. Brady's a fantastic QB and I'd take him over anybody in the history of the league, but he is relied on too heavily in the offense.

    Disclaimer: This isn't a knee-jerk reaction to today's loss. (I promise)
