This guy may become a common target in 2011 for Tom Brady. We haven't seen much of this guy at all but he has speed along with great hands and runs precise routes. Brady has had great success with the quick short route WRs and I think Taylor Price fits the mold in what Tom wants in a WR. Price also looked pretty fearless in week 17 vs the Dolphins.

These rumors of Welker being shopped sound absurd, but after seeing Randy Moss get shipped away I suppose anything is possible. Maybe Bill sees something in Price that we haven't seen that could lead him to "shop" Welker. And I haven't forgot about Edelman who could have his time to shine next season as Branch is also getting old.

I'm not saying that Welker is going anywhere, and I hope he isn't going anywhere, but I think we have some players that could have quite an impact in the game if they weren't collecting dust on the bench. I still want the Pats to take a good look at WR in the draft and free agency but I think Price may have a role next season.

BB obviously sees something in this kid to not risk throwing him on the practice squad. There was a lot of talk when he came out of college last year and I really think he will add something to this team in the future.

I'm curious why he wasn't used more this season. Must not be a place for him on special teams.

There are plenty of reasons he wasn't active:
    1. Wasn't a top-2 WR
    2. Third WR was KR
    3. Fourth WR was PR
    4. No need for more than 4 active WRs in a 2 TE offense

I think he has to get up to the #3 WR spot to get active next season. Otherwise, Edelman's PR and 4th receiver duties are of more value than Price's 4th receiver duties.

Wasn't Price injured during the season as well?

He was late to OTA's because of the University of Ohio's semester schedule...I'm sure that has something to do with his development as silly as it sounds.

I think this was pretty much a redshirt year for him, considering the primitive offense that he played in in college, plus being late to OTAs/camp. The fact that he didn't get the old phantom IR speaks well for him, I think, and shows that Belichick thought being hands-on and coaching him up with the rest of the team was worth a roster spot. Considering how much emphasis he places on getting production out of every spot, that actually means something on this team.

    That's not silly at all.
He was behind everyone in learning the playbook, not to mention the WR's he was competing with weren't in their rookie year. He came from an Ohio system that's nothing like the Pats, making it even tougher on him.

By the time he learned the playbook, if he ever did, he had to play catch up and some how pass the other WR's or a ST in practice.

I think he is a "project". They are probably going to try and develop him into a good receiver.

He comes from a school where run first was the offense. He has size but speed compared who ?.He has a potential to be a good possession receiver. If he cannot break the game day till both your top 2 WR are out i wonder.

If he develops into a gaffney or givens type player in a 2yr you had a good pick but man to say 2012 is going to depend on him is like the 06 season depending on chad jackson , who played in bigger and better offense and was a freak.

You can't make any predictions. This was also Tate's first full year playing pro football. Some WRs develop late in the game, others do well in their first season and then fall off.

If Welker and Branch are both on the team for 2011, and Tate presumably stays as the #3 receiver, I don't see Price getting many game-time snaps. Unless of course he hops Tate on the depth chart. If in 2011, Tate or Price does not emerge as a true Z or X, then we could see more teams jamming us at the line and taking away the middle of the field like the Jets did. Moss' ability to take the top of the defense, with or without getting the ball, was tremendous for our offense. I think when we lost that (essentially getting two DBs to follow Moss 10+ yards down the field, or a safety shadowing him all day) it took a lot out of our play-book and made us less dimensional in the passing game.

He has almost identical measurements to Greg Jennings, so think of him as a do-it-all kind of WR. Elite Speed for deep routes (4.39 40 yard dash), modest height for speed in and out of cuts on smaller routes while still being a potential deep threat (6'1), and a fairly impressive vertical (He has a 37" vert, Dez Bryant has 38", Jennings has 37", Hakeem Nicks 35"), and he's decently strong for his size so he will be able to be a good blocker (assuming proper technique) and it will allow him to fight off jams fairly well. He has good hands from I've seen. He's significantly more athletic than Tate. The issue is him learning the offense in terms of breaking down coverages presnap so both when he is a hot route both he and Brady will be on the same page. For him, it's all mental to become a good WR. But he seems like a smart kid and for all accounts and purposes is high character so lets hope he puts in lots of work over the summer to get him self to the starting roster.

He's been my Binky for a reason lol (had to fix my typo). And to answer a poster earlier, hes showed real toughness to go over the middle like a possession WR, but he can also break the game open if gets the chance. If youve ever watched Greg Jennings, that's what he could end up playing most similar to. And Jennings is a top 5 WR IMO(Others being Johnson, Wayne, Fitzgerald, White).

Tom always commented on how nice it was to have a big target like Moss and spoke volumes on the benefits of Gronkowski as a target.

It'd be nice to have some size and reliability to go with the smurf patrol.

I hope price works out, the posts sound positive. Good energy in the miami game carried himself well off the field.

When speaking about Gronk, BB made a comment a couple of weeks ago about catch radius. I took it as the receiver having the size to not only be a big target physical target for the QB, but also have the ability to haul the passes in by creating good separation and having great hands.

We can all agree that Moss was one of the best ever at doing that.

Gronk seems to have that same ability.
