According to Mort... NO DEAL...

Maybe its over - but anyone who has been through negotiations of this matter knows that there's a lot of brinksmanship that goes on.

The deadline was extended to 10pm earlier today. At 6:30pm they "break off" talks. Its now 7pm.

Do you really think everyone's completely thrown in the towel and wouldn't consider talking again before the 10pm deadline (which itself was set two hours prior to the 12:01am start of free agency to even give them some extra wiggle room there to extend negotiations for another hour or two)?

Or do you think this is a tactic by a party to force movement on a particular issue before the 10pm deadline?

Frankly, when you "end" talks BEFORE a deadline is reached, the one and only reason you do so is to force movement on an issue - this is right out of "Negotiations for Idiots" - which pretty much sums up what we're observing anyway.

The way to tell if talks are truly over is if teams start announcing their major cuts immediately (which, by the way, would be a novel tactic for the owners to try to send a message of their own!)

Too bad for the NFL. The Patriots will be OK either way, though, they'll have a plan.

Looks like she is starting to warm up those pipes! ESPNNews just broke the top of the 9pm hour saying there is no delay, no deal. Saw an interview with Upchuck and they were saying that just like in a spatter film (their analogy), the last bullet finally hit the goblins body for the last time. But wait, they've just extended the deadline to 11:30! Go back to the green room, bertha!

I agree, BB and company are prepared for every and any contingency plan they need. :rocker:

bf,

you're right the pats will be fine. I am really surprised they haven't cut biesel, poole and chad brown. You would think you could draft those three positions and save almost 4 million.

They have not done anything because nothing has been determined. Just be patient for a few more hours.

They have no need to make any cuts right now - they are cap compliant. When the time comes that they need dollars to sign someone, then they can consider your suggested moves.

I dont know how people think we are fine, we would be better with a new cba in place

Time to resurrect the XFL.
