Obama and McCain both speak of earmark reform.

Obama earmark requests in 3 years of office = $740 million = $246 million/year.

McCain earmarks in 24 years = @ $30 Million = $1.25 million/year.

$740 million...3 Years.

.

All I can say is: I'm glad he's a "clean, articulate black man" -- as his running mate, Joe, put it.

Some earmarks are bad, but in general most of them are fine, unless you're against senior citizens centers, programs to give inner city kids after school activities, medical research, development of new weapons systems, and so on. Sure, there are some stupid earmarks, but most of them are fine. Obama has posted all his earmark requests (which is to his credit since he believes in government transparency):

Answer Center | Barack Obama

The anti-earmark thing is simply old style politics -- condemning a perfectly good thing by finding isolated examples of abuse. That said, it's easy to understand why Obama renounced earmarks. The issue is easily distorted by his opponents.

And I can bet that they don't include the development of new weapons systems !!

Newsmax.com - Obama&#39s Defense Plan Leaves Us Vulnerable
“I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending. I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems. I will not weaponize space. I will slow our development of future combat systems, stated Obama.

Look under Homeland Security and Defense (listed twice, once for each year):

Interesting how in the debate he stated he is for the experimental funding of weapons systems. Of course the MSM doesn't call him out on this.

Given tha some righties have already made false claims about what Obama said, would you care to provide a quote to support your claim?

Obama from the debate, speaking on the last question "
What do you think the likelihood is that there would be another 9/11-type attack on the continental United States?"
This was Obama speaking at the Caucus4Priorities.
YouTube - Obama-Caucus4Priorities
So obama believes we need missile defense systems, but would cut the very funding that is needed to test those systems, or at the very let slow their development. Is being nuked by rogue nations really change that we can believe in?

This guy doesn't know what he wants. He blows in the wind much worse than Clinton ever did. He reminds me of a palm tree in a typhoon.

Actually, I don't think McCain had earmarks, so your translation is wrong. But, if you haven't noticed, I'm a liberal who supports government spending to help communities, to develop new technologies, and promote the arts, sports, farming, and education.

Seems to me you're interpreting things to suit your politics. Obama opposes uproven systems, but clearly that means he opposes proven systems. Several of the defense systems have been proven, but there are probably others out there that are unproven.

All new systems are unproven by their inherent nature so following your logic, he opposes all new systems........

That's your level of proof, but honestly I doubt if it's anyone else's.

For instance, if virtually all the top scientists and top scientific organizations said that man is doing such damage to the atmosphere that it will affect the weather in ways that will kill many people, animals, and plants, I would say that's enough proof for me, but many conservatives would find that inadequate. Many find the theories and proofs behind Darwin's belief inadequate, too. I think however, given that Obama is both a believer in evolution and believes we should address global warming, his level of proof is different from yours. He trust scientific theory.

You are giving me doublespeak..
1 He opposes unproven systems
2 He trusts scientific theory
Guess what, theories are by nature unproven.....

Let's go back to 1945 and put Obama in the White House. The Manhattan Project is an unproven system that scientists theorize will work..
Will he greenlight the project?
If I follow your logic either he will ( he trusts scientific theory) or he won't (he opposes unproven systems)...Which is it?? You can't vote present this time....
