apparently has declared for the draft.

Don't know anything about him, he wasn't even on CBSsports list of prospects for this year. However...(from Mocking the draft)

Intriguing. Time to watch some Syracuse games. Anyone with any info?

Production has never matched talent. I'm intrigued, but not before the 4th. Still, with the right coaching he could develop into a solid player. I just don't see a lot of consistency with him right now. He does have decent agility, but I'm not sure if I see the suddenness that an OLB would have (assuming we return to the 34). Drafting him would signal, to me, that we're spending more time in a four man front, or at least subpackages.

I don't know much about Chandler as a football player, but if he is anywhere near as athletic as his brother Johnny "Bones" Jones, I would take him in a second. If any of you don't know who Jon Jones is, he is the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, and one of the most gifted athletes on the planet. And from what I've heard his younger brother is supposed to be an even better athlete, so I am assuming thats Chandler. I haven't watched him play, but I am now certainly intruiged.

As a pass rusher, he seems very limited. Just a straight bull rush. As a run defender he is decent, doesn't appear to set the hard edge we desperately need at OLB.

Are you still dreaming of a Pats 1st round pick at OLB?
It would take the perfect confluence of the moon, the stars, and athletic talent.
Even then BB would probably still pass! ;)

Guy was never on my radar. Thought the competition was weak in his conference and never really considered him. I'm on board though, if he is BB's guy I support him 100%. Gonna have to go back and watch him.

One other family member was a fair football player too. Grand Pappy is THE Deacon Jones.

A good point from Chandler Jones himself. Having a brother (or is it cousin) in the NFL will help him adjust to the rigours of being a pro. Hopefully it will smooth out the transition.

    Reamer, Ochmed, and those others of similar opinions on Chicken Legs Chan were correct the first time;
and absolutely nothing has happened during the last 4 months that should have changed anybody's minds,
    including Bill's.

This potential Crablesque bust was overdrafted by almost an entire round. Unfeckinbelievable.

I vote that if this post gets 100 likes, captain stone gets banned.

Why in hell would you slam a guy that hasn't even played a single snap for us and by the looks of it still has alot of room to grow into his frame? You should also consider that if BB thinks it is worth moving up there definately must be potential there.

Deacon Jones is his grandfather . Here's hoping. He certainly has the versatility you hope for out of a guy like that, and his upside is incredible. He doesn't have an explosive first step, but he shows solid core strength and good hands.

I (mostly) stand by my assessment of the time, although I had not seen some of his better games. Nonetheless, I stated that I thought he had great potential, so I hope that he grows into his frame and fulfills his potential far beyond my wildest dreams. After all, I'm a fan, not a professional analyst. I'll always root for my team and hope that their moves work out well.

I feel totally the opposite. I'd rather folks go on record with their opinions at the time of the draft, with the info available NOW, rather than waiting to bash decisions with sanctimonious 20-20 hindsight. I have no problem with the Cap'n stating his objections.

My opinion, fwiw: I haven't followed this draft class nearly as closely as classes past. I also know that pass-rushing DE/OLB has been an incredibly hard position for the whole league to project, with a huge number of highly drafted busts. That includes guys with tremendous college production (e.g. Larry English), guys with tremendous physiques (e.g. Vernon Gholston), etc. etc.

But like pretty much every Pats fan in creation, I've felt this team has gone far too long without taking a chance on SOMEBODY. At #21, the options were Chandler Jones, Whitney Mercilus, Nick Perry and Courtney Upshaw. From the little I know, I'm fine with Jones. Captain Stone, which would you have chosen?

Mike Mayock things highly of him: Quote from Wednesday:

    From SBNation:

"I'm gonna make a statement," said Mayock. "Three years from now, I'm gonna say Chandler Jones is the best defensive player to come out of this draft.

I also wasn't blown away with chandler Jones' quickness and he's not very sudden imo which I think is important for a outside rusher. I think he will make us tougher on the 1st couple downs though. I like the hightower pick much better tbh.

Chandler Jones' measurables and bloodlines are creamworthy tho. His grandfather is Deacon freakin Jones one brother is a starting NFL O-lineman and the other a world champion mixed martial arts fighter.

Thanks for having my back, and I hope yours feels better.

I only would have made the trade to 21 if I was convinced that Hightower could contribute on the edges
for us, and that PitsDirt would take him at 24. The only other worthy of consideration at 21 would've
been Mercilus. And I absolutely would've stood pat at 31 and waited for Jones to fall to me.
If someone else took him before 31, no biggie; I'll just pick from Reyes, Still, Worthy, Upshaw, Branch
& Curry, thank you very much.
