liberal supreme court judge is officially retiring, finding his replacement should get real interesting. He IS a liberal, do the conservatives really expect Obama to nominate a conservative?

Interestingly enough, he wasn't always a liberal. He was appointed by Gerald Ford, a Republican president.

Yes i know, but i don't think he was a hard line conservative. From what i remember Rep. vs Dem really was like Coke or Pepsi there wasn't much difference. So he could have been consevative for those times, which would make him a flaming liberal moonbat today.

Pre-Bork, if the justice had credentials, they were approved which is how Republican presidents appointed liberals thinking they were moderates. Lifetime appointments let the justices truly express themselves.

What about - the best person qualified for the job regardless of race, creed, color, gender or sexual persuation?

    Now there's a novel idea.

You didn't mention religion??? Ironically religion may play a role in the next Supreme Court justice selection but you won't hear about it in polite company. Huh?? Right now Justice Stevens is the only Protestant justice on the court with 6 Roman Catholics and two of the Jewish faith. If the next nominee is not Protestant, expect to see "other reasons" for Senators of both parties to object to the nominee. Call me cynical but in a country that is majority Protestant, I can see the above scenario happening....

By that standard, I'm wondering if someone who practices Islam gets a push.

Hany Mawla down in New Jersey or Charlene Mekled Elder up in Michigan...a female and a muslim so a double juicy choice.

But choosing either of them won't happen, they already know who they want from their short lists and the same people will come up as possibilities again:

Solicitor General Elena Kagan, Merrick Garland in the US Court of Appeals for DC, and Diane Wood in the US Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit(Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin) to name a few.

Well, he's got the absolutely-butt-ugly-as-sin-American demographic already covered.

Once again the right shows its affinity for pretty people, rather than intelligent people...

Interesting that you chose a liberal woman to label as ugly... rather than, say, Scalia?
