    Hi all,
So far, my superbowl weekend has not gone very well and I was hoping to turn to my fellow patsfans for some moral support. Here is the story

As has become custom when the patriots play in the superbowl, me and a few of my friends get together for a party to eat, drink, and watch the game, needless to say that was the plan, but everything started to fall apart last night.

My wife called and told me she was going out to eat with a couple of co-workers and then would come home and help clean the house. This was fine, I would do my typical cleaning jobs and she could finish up later that night. That is where it takes a turn for the worse.

I recieve a phone call from my boss around 7:30 telling me we have a very important job that is due right away monday morning.GREAT! now I get to work friday night and most of saturday. I start to work and realize that it is gotten rather late, 12:45 am to be exact, when my drunk wife comes rolling in after one to many ****tails. I get her to be and get back to work thinking that she will now get to clean the entire house on saturday. OOPS! I forgot that she was heading to her grandmas for a visit today and will not be back until sunday after noon.
So, now I get to clean the entire house and do all the cooking by myself, as well as work on the weekend. Top that off with emails from both my friends who were supposed to come to watch the game saying they could not come.

Take a deep breath, because it gets worse. I got up early this morning knowing I had a lot to do today, first of which is to walk our dog. It is nice here today, so I thought I would take here to the park a few blocks away and play some fetch. We are out there having a good time when a lady comes up and asks me if that is my dog, I proudly say it is and she returns the favor by giving me an 85 dollar ticket for not having my dog on a leash in the park. WHAT!! no warning, nothing, i didnt even know that was the law!

Now my wife has called me and continues to apologize for leaving me to do everything and promises to make it up to me (oh,she will :)) I tell her that my friends are not coming so I do not think I am going to make all the food I had planned-she has great news though-6 of her girlfriends are coming over because they like the commercials.

That means I get to work, clean the house, go grocery shopping, cook all the food, pay a fine, and watch the game with 6 women who could care less about the game.

of course, all this will not matter at all if the patriots can pull off the victory.

    thanks for listening.

Call you buddies, tell them the house has mold, and meet them at the closest sports bar. Buy a round or two to assuage their hostility. Tell the wife she's on probation for the next three Super Bowls. We plan for the Patriots to be in all of them.

What is it that you do that your boss calls you at home on 7:30 on a Friday night and asks you to work over the weekend?

Concerning the other misfourtunes I would grow a pair and uninvite the wifes freinds, fully knowing that sex will not be an option for a few weeks and fight the unleashed ticket if the park isn't posted.

There is a silver lining in your story. When I started reading it, I thought it was going to turn into you catching your wife cheating on you, so its not as bad as it could be.

    My opinion:

I like to focuson the game when the Patriots are playing. Before I got Directv and the Sunday Ticket, I would have to go to a bar to watch 8-10 games a year (I live in Upstate NY). I would always go alone. The same people were usually there, many of them Pats fans. I wouldnt associate with them, because it was a Patriots game, not a time to be distracted by discussion.
With the dish, every game is the same. I am in my recliner 3 feet from the TV, watching by myself (until this year when my 9 year old son has become a REAL rabid fan, and wants to really watch the game instead of 'kinda watching and kinda doing other things') and when anyone comes in the room and has something to say the game is paused until they are done. (Its great watching the game a little behind to fast forward through the commercials)

So my advice to you would be to watch the game in another room than the people who are there to see commercials, forget the 'party' aspect and focus on the game. Personally, i wouldnt worry about cooking, cleaning etc, because this is "MY GAME" so I'd order in and let my wife worry about how cleaning for "HER PARTY" because its "MY GAME" and "HER PARTY" gets in the way.

No doubt, this is 100% totally, and blatantly selfish, but where the Pats are concerned that is exactly what I am, and I have never met anyone who doesnt have SOMETHING they are 100%selfish about.

Go watch the SB at a friend's house. Watching the SB in a group where more than 20% of the people don't give a **** about the game never turns out well. Then they start thinking it's okay to attentively watch the commercials and spend the game talking about how great the commercials were.

You must look at this as opportunity. Get them all drunk during the game and you could end up with a Super interesting Post Superbowl experience

all good advice, I have decided to leave the house, that is not my problem, work has to be done, but I should finish by noon tommorow, so that should not be an issue. The food is my baby, as I like to cook, so that will still be done, but I did have it out over the phone with my wife letting her know that if her and her friends get in the way even a little bit with the game, they are being moved into another room.
I am hoping that by end of 1st quarter, I will be dancing with joy because we are up big, but until then....

Oh, and I am going to fight the ticket, that was horse manure.

I'm in complete control of the weekend agenda at my place. I refuse to go to parties because they try to distract me with social stuff that I do not care about. I'm watching this baby alone because I do not want to talk to anybody. This SB is NOT A SOCIAL EVENT. It is a critically important BOSTON SPORTS EVENT.... (Boston Vs New York to boot).
