Hadn't realized until today that this is the last year of Buffalo WR Stevie Johnson's rookie contract, and he's holding a tough line in talks. Then I read this in Lombardi's column just now:

    13. Just based on the way Bills receiver Stevie Johnson plays against Darrelle Revis of the Jets, expect an AFC East team to make a strong run at him this offseason. Johnson is looking for a big contract and should get a great deal. He is tough to handle.

Not sure if the "tough to handle" bit refers to as an opponent or as a teammate. He's had some questionable moments — big drop v Pitt last year, the Plax silliness this year — but he has the talent to be the missing piece of this offense. If he has the football acumen to get in sync with TFB.

No thanks, the game is all about him, not his team, or winning.

This guy is about as inconsistant a player as there is in the NFL today. I want no part of Stevie Johnson, especially for the amount of money it would take to sign him.

Makes bonehead "all about me" plays that lose teams games.
    NOT a BB type player.
    He's a Jet next year.

The moment he pantomimed Plaxico shooting himself he became my favorite non-Patriot AFC East player. That **** was funny as hell.

The comments about how he's all about himself not the team are pretty far off-base. I remember that big drop he had last year the guy seemed pretty gutted that he let his team down based on his twitter comments.

Seeing him on local TV/radio, it's all about him. I doubt he fits the Pats team model. But, you never know.

If BB and staff can't figure out which receivers can pick up their system, then how in the world would I have any idea.

From a locker room perspective, I'd say pass for now.

Funny -- I started this thread just as I was leaving work and, as I was driving home, thought ... "the board is going to KILL this." And no one's even mentioned the PO Welker factor. Or the "this offense doesn't need him" angle. Well, guy sounds like a perfect Jet. ...

The "missing" piece of an offense that averages 424.5 yards per game (#2 overall), 30.9 ppg (#3 overall), and has scored 55 TDs on the season (#3) overall? Are you serious? What we need to do for the offense this offseason is to resign Wes Welker. That's our #1 priority.

Now here's the thing with Stevie Johnson. He's likely going to look for a contract even richer than Welkers. I don't see the Pats doling out that much money for WRs. Particularly since Ochocinco is still on the books. Would I rather have S. Johnson over Ocho? In theory yes. But who knows if he would have the SAME struggles that Ocho has had transitioning to the Pats 'read' offense? That could end up being a big financial commitment for a WR who hasn't proven he can run our system yet.

So it's an interesting idea but I'll have to pass. I just want Welker locked up. If SJ were affordable I'd say yes, but it says in the article that he's looking for a 'big contract' so I just don't see it happening.

He's not a self-absorbed egotist. He's actually a team player and a solid guy. He's not a prima donna at all. He's the opposite.

Yes, he blew the game against the Jets, but I'm more concerned by his two big drops that would have won the game for his team.

He's a low round pick, scrappy guy, chip on his shoulder, and he'd fit in Foxboro, BUT I suspect the biggest payday for him will come from the Bills. He made little cash on his rookie deal, and will be looking to max out (as he should). No one but the Bills is going to pay him what he's looking for.

Remember, the Bills have a lot of cap room AND they have paid $$$ for WRs in the past.

I want no part of him. He'll make all the catches in the world until it actually matters, and then he'll be wide open and drop multiple games multiple times.

They say he wants 7.5 per. Rather NE spends that cash elsewhere.

No thanks. Guy will have an all world game followed by 3 sub par games. Inconsistent means lacks focus in his case. He's talented no doubt and could improve in this offense but not worth the price he will be looking for.

I'd much rather take a flyer on Robert Meachem to play on the outside. He's raw but he's physical, fast and always has to be accounted for. He'd take a lot of pressure off a signed Welker and our beastly TE's.
