What's wrong with Zoltan Mesko? - Steelers Fever Forums
It's likely severe depression caused by environment.
Zoltan Mesko, now with the Steelers, ranks 31st in punting average (42.5) and 29th in net punting average (36.7).
#Steelers Tomlin: Mesko has "had his moments" positively and negatively. Inconsistent. But "I did think he rebounded well, finished strong"
Patriots rookie punter Ryan Allen is 12th in punting average (46.2) and 14th in net punting average (40.4).
The stress from sharing a locker room with "an alleged" sex offender may be affecting his play.
Credit to the Pats for making the move to choose Allen instead. Allen/Gost are playing damn well. When the offense finally has a down year, the defense and ST has risen to the occasion. Thank god.
Just imagine what the board would've been like today had the Patriots kept Mesko and cut Allen.
As much as I like Mesko and his character as a human being, in a football sense, the Patriots made the right call.
He may have been traumatized by Big Ben's invitation to grab a beer or two with him after practice, and just lost his focus since then trying to decipher what Ben's intentions were in making that offer.
His rankings are twice as good, his salary is two thirds less and he's signed for many more years. So yeah, pretty much looks like no-brainer.
It strikes me that their punter should probably be pretty far down the long list of things about which Steelers' fans might be "not happy" this season.
